I am hoping to find some answers to help me iron out some of the issues with my truck. She is my first diesel so please forgive my naïveté and bare with me. 🙏🏼
My truck is a 1993 F-350 Ambulance Package, former animal control unit for the Las Vegas, NV police. It is a 7.3 IDI non-turbo. I don’t know a lot about the service history of this beast.
But I do know she has been shredding serpentine belts like it was a chew toy. Last time she did this we had just put a new belt on and within 75 miles, she shredded it and left us on the side of the interstate.
I’m trying to figure out why she keeps doing this. I have been told it may be the wrong tensioner assembly or even possibly something with the wrong alternator but nothing really telling us why or where we should specifically look.

My Powerstroke had a bad belt tensioner that was kicked out on an angle and allowing the belt to ride on the ridge causing it to tear 2 of it's ribs.
also a misaligned Power Steering pump pulley can cause the same thing.
yup. easiest way to try to see what is up is with engine running, look at the belt at pulleys, idlers, and tensioners. everything should be in a perfect line. if one is off by as much as 1/8 to 1/4 inch it will eat belts.
also with engine off and belt removed, wiggle all pulleys, tensioners and idlers to see if there is bearing deflection.
