I can honestly say that in 125,000+ miles that I have had 'several' scares due to slow throttle response. Either from a stop pulling into or across traffic or accelerating at highway speeds.
I have found that the Tow/Haul mode seems to provide some improvement in throttle response. Have simply not tried any of the these controllers discussed here.
This is what I am trying to eliminate. I should have the SOLER unit this week. I will report back when I have some time to try the different settings.
That delay in response is EXACTLY what these devices remove. As someone earlier said - they do not add power - they simply actuate the throttle more quickly.
I have a Pedal Commander on mine. Works awesome. Had I known about Soler I would have given it a try. The Banks and Pedal Commander units are over priced because they can be. I will admit that Banks is somewhat different because it is part of a modular system that offers a lot of other features - with a hefty price tag though. If people stop buying them and buying the Soler unit guess what PC and Banks will have to do? Competition is good. Who doesn't like to save money?
I was on the fence about which unit to purchase. I was about to pull the trigger on a Banks until I saw this thread. I went with one from Soler and couldn't be happier. The customer service was outstanding and the device functions flawlessly. I have experimented and definitely like Comfort 4 / 5 as my every day setting. I will use Sport when I am just looking to mess around. What I got is a well designed product from a company that offers great service and at a very affordable price...
My question is, does it change anything in cruse control mode, or just the pedal manual foot input mode...??? Meaning shift down earner because the throttle % numbers do go up as I see it when going up a hill in cruse mode, but the shifts should happen earlier IMO...
The Pedal Commander does not affect the cruise control. I agree - the programming of the cruise setup is stupid. It waits WAY too long to downshift when climbing a grade.

That's too bad... I am hoping to find something that controls the shift points as IMO the shifting down to get up hills is way too late and then ends up way too little after loosing 5 MPH it then tries to make up the speed it lost and is rather annoying, as the truck "could have made it up" the hill in 8th instead of going down into 6th...

Just leave the shifter in D (drive) and depress the - negative button on the shifter when you want a down shift. You will have to depress the + positive button to add it back again.

Yup, that IS what I end up doing... Thing is, it has become my pet-peeve, it's and automatic, it has more than enough gears to do a FANTASTIC job, but here I am manually shifting...
I actually think normal eco, icy, settings are done just right, but the T/H mode needs a bit more programing...
Just pulled the trigger. I'm not sold on these in general, but with this price point the risk is low. Looking forward to trying this out @Mike-at-SolerEngr
