Hi guys,. (and gals)
Thanks for this thread......I believe it has answered my questions, but I want to make sure..

When I bought my '19 XLT, I chose not to get the NAV because i was more than happy to plug in my android and use it through the sync3. I have not been overjoyed with the sync3 for various reasons, but it always reboots and works until the next time....details upon request.

So I'm about to do the covid flip and order an F-450.
So far I've been a little bummed at the lack of gear ratios and e-locker.....I honestly used the locker quite a bit. I'll live..

I thought I wanted a Lariat for the stereo and big screen....until this thread. If I'm reading this thread correctly, I cannot use the sync4 the way I'm using my current 3; correct?? And I certainly do not want to subscribe to anything.

If that's the case, I'll stick with another non nav XLT.....sux to lose the stereo, screen and color upgrade.

Off topic, but this site also has me gun shy about the 10 speed.

I usually go about 7 years between trucks and it's worked out well selling private party and catching rebates along with my available D plan......historic times where we can upgrade in less than 3 years and for very little cash..

Appreciate all the info and welcome any and all corrections if I'm missing something.

Regards.

the sync 4 is a nice looking system, seems to work pretty good also. the 12" screen looks nice too. as for the nav, well thats up to you on how you feel about it. It sucks that you only get to use it for 90 days but 90% of people are using car play or android auto anyways. I cant tell you what to do but I do love my lariat. As for the 10 speed, mines been flawless, its very nice to drive. the skip shifts will weird you out at first but once you get used to the truck you wont even notice it anymore unless you look at the cluster indicator.

Thanks....upon further research. mostly from the wife, the 4 will work exactly like my 3 did W/O Nav using the android.

So about $4k extra for a Lariat over the XLT for the stereo, bigger screen......do not want the leather and deleted the center counsel.

450 is ordered and the replies are blowing up for the 350 which was listed at a ridiculous covid price.

1st offer was with hours of ad.....told him I'd let him know.
Dealer said up to 6 months on the order, so I have time.

Thanks. That's the main thing I like about Ford's NAV

Mine doesn't show the road name you're on or speed limits after the subscription ran out.
Just the moving map, it has road names on the roads on the map, but they don't show up as the certain road your on like they did before.

My Connected navigation expired a week ago, and I completely forgot about it being gone until I received an update from this thread (at least this subscription is free). I have been getting more accustomed to using Android Auto and my downloaded Google map, but rarely need 'em as I don't travel like I used to. After 3 full months, I've got a whopping 1,200 miles on my new F250.

Mine expired a week ago. They really screwed the pooch on this one. Just greed. 70k or better and the nav lasts 90 days. Other fine options available. Bye Bye!

Bumping this up, because I have a 2024 on order and was researching what my truck would come with and I came across this thread. Figured I'd post an update from the 2024 order guide:

I'm still a little confused, because "Connected Navigation" traditionally reverted to just a 'moving map', as it even says on Ford's website (3rd picture attached below). But the fine print states it will revert to "embedded offline navigation"....which I would think is actual navigation, just without the updates and live traffic/weather. What do you think?

Either way, I have Google maps, Apple maps, and Waze to choose from. I just don't like using my phone if I don't have to. I mainly want to know what happens to Ford's navigation after the 1-year trial. Do we still get navigation, or just a dumb moving map?

This is from the Ford website. It shows price and also lets you know you can's use your Ford Rewards, only cash!

https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos...ted%20Services.

How much does Connected Navigation* cost after 90-day trial?

The cost of the subscription is $80 per year for vehicles equipped with Connected Navigation (90-day trial).

Note: FordPay™ and FordPass®** Rewards cannot be utilized to pay for Connected Services.

I've been pleased with Android Auto. It does use your phone, but it does not need to use data from a paid cell phone subscription, nor do you need to be in an area with cell service. You can download the map areas you want (via Google maps) to your phone while at home, and Android Auto uses that data stored in your phone for navigating. You can also set up automatic map updates to occur only while your phone is linked to your home's WiFi.

Connected built in navigation only comes with platinum and limited trims, maybe king ranch, not on lariat and lower trims, at least that is how it used to be. Built in nav is the only one that works without a yearly subscription.
Connected nav is the cloud based one, which came on my Lariat, requires a yearly subscription to keep it working. I let mine go, just use google maps on android auto.
The connected nav SUCKS anyway, every aftermarket dash top nav device has much better features.

This is what it does when the subscription runs out.

Kidding of course, for the second time since getting it, the GPS failed to initialize.

The Built in nav is the regular nav like above, you just wont get updates or OTA nav, the connected is just mapping with out any navigation. You basically see where you've been and where your heading, but wont tell you how to get there, the built in will still tell you, you just have to enter it via the screen instead.

I have a 2022 F350 Lariat with SYNC 4. In my experience, I MUCH prefer using Google Maps and my Android phone connected via Android Auto for navigation. Voice recognition is FAR superior than Ford's, voice directions are far superior. I have given up on using Ford's lame voice interface and only use my phone via Android Auto.

My wife has a 2022 Explorer with SYNC 4, an it is a worse pile of garbage than in my F350. Her SYNC 4 is un-useable and the dealer has no solution.

I don't have the luxury of a cell phone signal everywhere that I go, and as much as I am annoyed at the cost, I am all in with this expensive truck. I will pay the fine and complain. The 1st three years are included.
