One thing that really annoys me though, is whenever I use a voice activated command for navigation, it sends the command to the Ford nav system by default instead of sending it to Google Maps in Android Auto, even when Google Maps is active in Android Auto. Maybe that will stop when my 90 day Ford nav trial ends, but I'd love to change that now if a work-around exists. Right now, I have to manually enter my destination using the search function in Google Maps which totally defeats the purpose of "hands free" driving.
I use the Android Auto Google Maps feature exclusively and will control it via voice. Just say "Hey Google" and the phone wakes up and then you can say "Navigate to XYZ" and it does it in Google Maps. The Ford system never gets in my way.
that's funny, just received an email from Ford today trying to sell me a "Sync 3 Navigation Update" for my F350 Lariat. Hmm, let me think how many times I've used the ford navigation in over three years and 40,000+ miles. Thinking, thinking, thinking....Oh, it's zero. I have never used it. Not once. Plug in Iphone, speak address, drive. Why would anyone pay for this crap.
I am putting a deposit down on a Grenadier this week. They don't even have it as an option. Their philosophy; people carry a computer with them everywhere they go with navigation built in, why complicate matters by putting on in our vehicles. Couldn't agree more. They OEM nav maps are worthless, complicated and the voice features is a totally joke.

What year is your truck? I have done 2 Nav updates on my 2019, most recent was yesterday, both times they were free. Yes they have a paid option as well, but it's not required.
FYSA, the built-in nav, which I need since I'm off the beaten path quite a bit with no cellular service, is only available in Platinum and Limited trims, per the 2022 Order Guide. Lariat and King Ranch only get the "Connected Nav," which uses your own cellular data.
Ford (all truck mfr's, actually) has already proven they can charge whatever they want for a truck, so why not make built-in nav available in all trims? What a scam.
FYI…..Download Magic Earth to your phone and you’re all set when you’re off the beaten path with no cell service.
Yes, the Magic Earth Navigation will display on the actual SYNC screen when you’re driving or on your phone when you’re walking.
Yes, it’s free and yes, it’ll work with or without cell service.

Yessir. I understand all that. Call me OCD, but some of us want a fully integrated, seamless navigation option that we paid for without needing to read the disingenuous fine print, or having to clutter up the dash with a phone with a special download, a Garmin with lifetime maps, or some other gadget. Yet Ford acts as if they have to move heaven and earth just to provide a GPS system.
Yes, I know, "your phone is so much better!" But here's the deal with any navigation system be it Google, Apple, or whatever-- you still have to know where you're going! All of them have led me astray at one time or another.

I've never tried that, but I will today. Thanks for the tip!
Have any of you tried waze on sync 4 yet? I wanted to use waze without having to connect via carplay but when i go under the sync app library it says theres no apps available for my truck.

Tried this yesterday and it worked perfectly, thank you Analog!
I'm still getting used to voice commands with Sync 4 though. It's a bit wonky on when to speak, and for some reason my radio volume jacks up for a moment when I push the voice command button. On the other hand, those really are privileged first world complaints and I should probably stop whining!

I haven't tried Waze, but I discovered a glitch the other day that might be related to your problem. Make sure the Waze app is installed on your phone, and make sure the app hasn't gone to sleep. Some of my apps didn't show up in the truck until I shut off the "sleep" mode in phone settings for the apps I wanted. That's on my Android though, your iPhone might be different.

im on sync4 I spoke with Ford and they confirmed they pulled waze from app link, while I don’t mind CarPlay, sync does most of the features I use just fine but once this trial nav ends I want a replacement, you could use waze on sync3 as primary nav, can’t on sync4
If you use car play or Android auto and you use Google maps you can download map areas to your phone..so if you are going off the beaten path you can download the entire area your going to be in and any forest service road.. Road.. Or trail that's already listed in Google maps normally will be stored on your phone and you use that to navigate just like when you are on cellular service..
My trial expired. As expected it turned into a worthless simple moving map with no features whatsoever.
That's such BS. Just p1$$3$ me off. You spent a crap load of cash on that truck and they pull this. Makes me want to keep my 2018 Lariat forever. Lots of ill will being generated.
