Screw Ford. My $80,0000 truck navigation just dropped out. I cannot even get it to route me home. It’s a factory money grab and bullcrap. To not have basic navigation I just don’t get. These are the type of in your face profit centers that will have me looking for another option. I am so annoyed. Screw them.

I agree about it being a money grab, and it seems not very many people like it anyways. But I’m sure people will pay for it and the other manufacturers will follow suit.
I refuse to pay for a service I can get for free. This old man has learned how to get by using Android Auto and Google maps for basic navigation (no traffic or weather info). Had those services on a Garmin motorcycle GPS unit. The weather data was great when riding a motorcycle ... knew when I should apply/remove my rain gear. I'm at a loss as to how useful weather data is when driving my F250.
My dealer was also under the impression that my GPS would continue to navigate after the "Connected" trial period expired. Ya' shoulda' seen their jaws drop when I explained what we've been discussing in this thread. I am totally disappointed with "Connected" navigation, and underwhelmed with Sync4 overall. I received an email this past week asking me to respond to a Ford survey, and I let 'em have it with both barrels. Where would I be if I did not own a smartphone ... or lost mine? I know several people who don't own cell phones... and a few who do not have internet access at home.
Today is the day my connected Nav trial period expires. Will I renew.... NO. I already have my reliable Garmin GPS with free lifetime maps and traffic already setup and installed with a nice mount.
I do not believe paying $80.00 a year for a larger screen and a wonky nav systems is worth it. I have used it a few times to try it out and the routing is way off. Every time it has routed me the most difficult or half A$$ route you could take.
I received the Ford Survey request a few days ago. I also explained in the survey how Ford has let down their customer, has left a negative brand image in the mind of the consumer along with how misleading and somewhat hidden (unless you had the build specification sheet) the information was regarding the Nav system. Even the sales reps at my dealership did not have the proper understanding of the "Connected Nav".
I’m so glad I didn’t spend the extra $570 for nav on mine! In my experience, onboard nav has always been awful and not worth the extra charge. It sounds like they made Fords a little better by making it cloud based but I guess only if you want to pay a monthly fee, otherwise it’s the same ole junk that doesn’t work. Apple Maps and Google maps have worked well enough and are free. If towing a dedicated Garmin or similar device that we can program weights, height and length is a better option than these onboard systems.
I've had Sync in my Ford trucks for several models now. Wife has Sync in her 2014 Explorer.
My current 2019 F250 has Sync and here's my take on every version of Sync we've had so far:
Voice command recognition is okay, at best. Usually it's horrible. Trying to use voice commands to call when driving usually ends up in yelling at the box, cursing it, then giving up. Navigation is okay, but leaves much to be desired.
Android Auto in my F250 is far superior for voice recognition, understanding what I want. Navigation is also far superior to Sync. Maps in AA are also far superior than Sync.
My only complaint with Android Auto is that sometimes incoming calls have no sound; I can't hear them, they can't here me.
I doubt I'll be disappointed to lose the Ford stuff given the past history.
I'm not happy about paying a subscription to maintain the nav in my new 2022 F450 KR either. But, I'll save my indignation for the Blue Oval for when they start piping in Ads on Sync 4. If they're charging a subscription now you can bet they're scheming a way to make Ad revenue from all the data being collected off the truck modem and connected phones and apps.
You folks that just keep saying "phone, phone, phone..." just don't get it.
no kidding they don't get it.
who's to say the phone companies don't try the same bull crap anyway? Android auto might turn into a subscription service as they look to earn more money as people stop buying new phones as frequently which has already happened.
same with Google Maps a monthly subscription service isn't out of the question.
I'm glad the two vehicles that I purchased with navigation have a good navigation system, and it stays with the car forever.
Glad to see im not the only one bummed about how ford handled our navigation. wait till all those new broncos subscriptions run out, along with all the other new cars ford is producing. now whats a real bummer looking over the F150 order guide, lariat and above got connected built in navigation, im wondering if ford will do this for the lariat in 2023 or if they will stick to the current game plan for lariats.

I was watching TFL Truck with their new Tundra and they mentioned Toyota is doing the same, as are many manufacturers, according to them. Nobody seems to like it but it's not stopping people from purchasing the vehicle. I got a notice that my trial will expire in January. I'd say I've got four solicitations already.
Run whatever you have until the end and buy a real stand alone gps. Heck, Ford is abandoning blackberry “Sync 4” for android sync in 2023 model year anyway. Whatever you think you have with your 21-22 will be outdated and not update-able after the next model year - big fancy screen or not.

Anyone want a history of the flip phone?
I for one am excited for the android switch, I have no doubt android will make a much better system than ford could dream of making. I am also looking forward to the APIM from one so I can swap it into my 22. So far backwards compatibility has been doable with a little work, I have no doubt it will still be doable.
