i like my sync 3 with the live internet that redirects around traffic and stuff. android auto for me is overbearing but i guess i may have to learn it
I'm a little confused by what you're asking.
AFAIK there is no way to get the wifi modem onto any other service than AT&T.
And, on SYNC 4 connected NAV, so long as you keep the NAV subscription up, then you get traffic and weather, even without the wifi modem active.

So much confusion in here! Sync 3 with navigation is not available in a 2022 truck at all. Sync 4 that is in the lariat and king ranch is called connected navigation it comes with a 90 day free subscription it will show traffic and weather etc it is a Ford service and has nothing to do with Sirius XM(sync 3 traffic, weather, gas stations, etc came from Sirius XM). When your Ford subscription runs out the navigation becomes a useless moving map(you can’t put in an address or set up a route or use navigation it basically becomes useless and does nothing unless you pay. From my reading the subscription cost 80/year which isn’t terrible but I don’t want another subscription. Now for the platinum and limited, they come with connected built in navigation, you get a couple years of subscription I’ve seen different numbers thrown around I’ve seen 3 and 5 years regardless once that subscription runs out it turns into basic navigation that will still allow you to input routes and stuff and use it. Hope this helps some and clears up why I’m looking to delete it from my system after my subscription runs out.

SYNC 3 with nav is available, only in an XLT, it's a $570 optional add-on.

Incorrect, sir. SYNC 3 w/ voice-activated navigation is optional on the 2022 XLT, per the 2022 order guide. Also shown in the Build-and-Price.

Edit: @Ltngdrvr beat me to it.

There is a lot contradictory info in this thread so it’s hard to figure out what will happen in regards to the navigation. I have a Garmin with lifetime updates so I will have that to fall back on if needed. I ordered the navigation mostly because of the larger display and I plan on using this truck to pull a fifth wheel.

According to all the information I have Sync 3 with navigation is what is supposed to be coming on my 2022 XLT. I guess I will see what I actually get and what happens when the subscription expires.

SYNC 3 with nav doesn't require any subscription, that is only for the siriusxm traffic and weather, nav will continue to function without that.
And, the XLT's all get the 8" screen, so nav doesn't get a bigger than standard screen.

he’s right on how sync 3 with navigation works. This thread was meant to be for sync4 only as it only comes with a 90 day subscription i quoted this wrong but can’t add the other guy in now

Voice Activated Commands

I have the 90 day trial in my 2022 Lariat, but personally I prefer Google Maps in Android Auto because a) that's what I'm used to b) it gets traffic updates from Waze and c) it's free and doesn't require a subscription.

One thing that really annoys me though, is whenever I use a voice activated command for navigation, it sends the command to the Ford nav system by default instead of sending it to Google Maps in Android Auto, even when Google Maps is active in Android Auto. Maybe that will stop when my 90 day Ford nav trial ends, but I'd love to change that now if a work-around exists. Right now, I have to manually enter my destination using the search function in Google Maps which totally defeats the purpose of "hands free" driving.

Sorry if I've hijacked your thread JHForman812, but I'm hoping someone might have a simple solution to this "default app" issue.

Thank you!

no need to drop out, there’s a lot of valuable information being shared in here among all the different versions. Hell I learned something new from this today, I didn’t realize they still offered sync 3 with nav, I thought it was sync 3 no nav, and the 2 sync 4 versions

Nothing to be sorry for! I’m learning a lot from this. I’m also learning a lot of people are disappointed with what nav they are gonna have left when the trial expires.

I knew what would happen without the subscription being active on my 2022 Lariat. The subscriptions are for a 1yr period and are currently $80USD. I have a separate Garmin navigator that I use on my motorcycle. Another option is the TomTom app on phones, which also lets you download maps to your device for times when there is no cell service. My strong preference would have been that the "built-in" was made available on all of the Sync 4 trucks. From what I can tell this is purely a software thing, I don't believe the Sync4 system in a Limited is different HW wise from what is in a Lariat. So Ford could change their minds, or someone could figure out a way around this.

it depends, on the sync3 system the memory chip on the board was a different size. The non nav version was an 8GB chip, and nav versions were 32GB. The same could apply to sync4 possibly

I have yet to see the Sync 4 maps with the live updates, however, I do have the Sync 3 with the SirusXm Travel Link, and it sucks, really slow to update. That said, I use the Android Auto, with the Google Maps pretty much exclusively. Fast, way better maps than the built in, oh and cost is $0. If you have a new enough phone, you can use it wirelessly on Sync 4. I would assume that the Connect Nav is similar to Google Maps, but I don't see why you would pay for it, when you can get something that's as good or better for free (Other than phone data.). My 1.5 cents...
