I guess it’s just human nature to complain or have negative or unproven thoughts about something that they themselves haven’t experienced yet.
Many times, these same people don’t like change in anything especially they’re vehicles.
Regardless, until full EV’s are the only vehicles being sold, and that’s going to be awhile, the Stop / Start feature in vehicles is here to stay.
But the most requested thing to cancel and the most canceled thing on vehicles is start stop. Lol.
In my shop I've changed exactly three starters on vehicles with start stop that I know of. All three had plenty of miles and i wouldn't say they were premature.. ive replaced two engines with auto stop start. One a ford and one a Subaru. I dont suspect that start stop had any effect.
Google disable auto stop start. There are youtube videos showing how to disable it on every vehicle that has it. From prius to Honda CR-v. Its not just redneck truck owners who hate it. I had a 60 year old female federal Lawyer bring me a 2021 or 2022 explorer with the ecoboost 4 cylinder wanting start stop disabled. They sell modules to disable it on everything from prius to trucks. As far as I know every vehicle with it has a button to disable it. I know the prius did
I don't know why it's so hated. In my particular case with my move loud v8 exhaust note its just silly sounding at every stop sign or red-light. In a 4 or 6 or even an 8 with factory exhaust id leave it. I just run in sport and don't worry with it
Cylinder deactivation is the other thing people hate. Ive absolutely replaced several engines because of that one. Most shops will tell you the same. All GM or Hemi. I hope Ford done a better job than they did.

Yeah, I've heard of that one. But aren't the common issues for each related to a specific bad lifter design that's prone to failure? If so, there's nothing to suggest Ford or other manufacturers couldn't do a better job designing it. Honda has been using VCT on their J35 V6 for well over a decade, and I can't recall hearing of many issues with those other than complaining owners.

Vtec and vvt and the like are variable cam timing. They came out in the 80s. Not cylinder deactivating. If you deactivate a cylinder on a puny 1.8 or 2.2 vtec you would coast to a stop. Lol. Gm stated using cylinder deactivation in 05 i think on the 4.8 and 5.3. Later the 6.0. It was so bad that Chevy told the dealerships to quietly deactivate it when you got your oil change. I actually had one. An 05 Denali. They called it DOD displacement on demand. At least the 05 and 06 models GM just sent a builtin to disable it. I actually never saw an 05 or 06 fail though. I know after that they changed the name and moved the actuator. That one had a screen that would stop up and again destroy the engine. Lol. The problem was starvation of oil. The hemi got it later and it too ruined engines it was blamed on many things. The lifters actually wiped the cam lobes but that was just junk roller lifters. That happened on the ones before deactivation too.
Vcm was hondas entry into cylinder deactivating. It was a disaster too. Destroyed engines. Luckily it was only the 6 cylinders that got it so it wasn't heard of so much. Honda didn't sell a ton of 6 cylinders. Plenty of their minivan starved for oil and had premature failure in one bank
