I had a strange issue this morning with my 2018 F-150 XL 5.0, I started my truck, pressed the transmission button to put it into Sport mode, and I went on my way. Came up to the first stop sign and had to wait a little bit for traffic to go by and then went on. At the next stop sign I again had to wait for traffic, but this time the truck shut off. I got a tone and message in the display that said something like, "Auto Start Stop has turned off the vehicle, you must restart". I took my foot off the brake, and it did not restart on its own. I had my truck in Sport mode that should not of allowed the start stop to activate, right? I restarted the truck with the key, and this time left the transmission in normal mode and pressed the button to turn off the Start Stop, and I did not have any more issues on my drive. I'm assuming that for some reason the truck decided to activate Start Stop, even though it should not have, and it did not know to restart because of Sport mode?
I don't recall ever having that happen. If my memory is right, you can put it in sport mode (which deactivates auto SS) and reactivate auto SS by hitting the auto SS button on the dash.
Could you have accidentally or by habit hit the auto SS button while in sport mode?
Yeah, definitely something to keep an eye on for now, maybe try to replicate on your own. If it's only happened once, then a dealer is going to have a hard time replicating it. If it happens enough times then they might be able to.
My Start stop lights up and shows off ( same as pushing the button) when I put it in Trailer Tow or Sport mode. I would let the dealer know the next time I went in especially if it does it again.
I have driven in Sport mode many times, and this is the first time that this has happened. I'm glad I was just at a stop sign and not in the middle of an intersection waiting to turn left. I don't recall hitting the SS button after putting it in Sport mode, but maybe? I would hope that Ford put in something that would not allow the SS button to work when in Sport mode, but maybe that is why it shut off, and didn't know to turn back on? I am due for an oil change within the next month, so I am definitely planning on telling the dealer.
