Picked up another OBS as a parts truck and decided to make it the primary. I haven’t gotten an minute to check it out, but the folks that sold it to me said it didn’t go in reverse. Said they had it looked at and the shop said it’s not the transmission but it’s something to do with the shifter. Any ideas? I’m gonna get a better look at it tomorrow. I got it for a steal and I’m already buying a new motor, so I honestly wasn’t too worried about the issue when buying it. I fully expected to work on it. Thanks yall
I would pull the power to it, make it default. See what happens. E4OD should have OD and R only, others I build are third and R only.
From memory a clapped MLPS causes issues too.
Thanks for the reply. Really scratching my head on this one. I’m well versed on these motors, but when
it comes to transmissions, I’m pretty new. So you’re saying pull the power to it and see if it’ll go in reverse? Then plug it back in and see what happens?
It's a waste of time. There is NOTHING electrical that can prevent reverse. It has to be something mechanical. It could be the linkage, or it could be something failed inside the trans.

The shifter goes through all the gears. I got rid of the slip in the shifter by tightening the two torx screws under the dash, nothing changed. I don’t know if this makes any difference, but I can’t get the transfer case to allow me to shift into any of the 4 wheel drive positions.
If it drives forward but not in reverse, the problem is in the transmission, not the transfer case. But not shifting into any of the 4wd positions is a transfer case problem.

I reckon it’s time to buy a transmission. Any recommendations on where to buy one? I’ve been looking and have seen a range of prices. Monster Transmissions seems to be the cheapest, but I’m not sure on the durability of those.
Your transfer case problem could be rust around the bolt that the shifter pivots on, if the lever seems to be stuck in the 2 high position. There is supposed to be a plastic bushing in the base of the lever at the pivot point. The base is aluminum, and the bolt is steel, so corrosion from dissimilar metals could build up there.

Much appreciated. I’ll be pulling the shifting mechanism and linkage this weekend to make sure that’s working correctly so I don’t have to
buy a new transfer case along with the tranny.
