Good point. When you are inspecting fittings check all the way around to make sure that you can't see any o-ring.

When I had an HPO leak on a HPOP fitting it was easy to see when the engine was running as it was coming out as a small stream. Once I went in to do the repair I noticed the o-ring was protruding out of the connection underneath so I didn't see it to begin with.

O-rings are the pressure barrier for a lot of the fluid systems so it doesn't take much of a defect to start a leak.

Well, I got home from work today (13mi one way) and I'm scratching my head... no oil drips yet and the HPOP is clean. The IPR "weep" I pointed out hasn't grown whatsoever.
I didn't find time this morning to stuff it with paper towels, but I did tonight.
I think I'm going to hit the area behind the turbo again with the degreaser and the power washer.
How did my leak just dissappear?
I'm sure it will show back up given time, it was just misleading in its size. I'll keep updating.

Make sure the paper is fairly tight in there, don't want loose wads getting blown into the turbo exhaust housing or downpipe by highway air speed or cooling fan. Granted everyone SHOULD carry a fire extinguisher...

Funny you say that, I thought to myself "well I might could stuff some back there to see if the turbo pedestal or fuel lines are leaking..."
Then common sense kicked in, and I stuffed the last paper towel in around the HPOP and grabbed the shop fire extinguisher and threw it in the toolbox just in case.

Might be a leak that only shows when the engine is really cold.... or maybe, only when you driving the interstate at 75mph for a while.

BTW... mine has no leaks..... I probably shouldn't have said that......

Updating the thread, ****er hasn't dropped a single drip since I cleaned it. Perhaps all the dirt and crud up top had just stored 300k miles of oil sludge and was slowly seeping out? Dunno. For now I'll enjoy my leak free (hopefully) 7.3. (Knock on wood)

Cole, Have you seen a re-manifestation of a leak yet? I’ve read every word on your thread, and it appears that I have the same leak. I did the same thing you did, cleaned out the valley, I think someone on your thread said to use simple green, in which I did. Clean the valley really nice. I haven’t done any towing, I’ve just putted it around town, maybe 30 miles since I’ve cleaned out the valley. And my valley is clear, just like the day that I cleaned it.

What was your oil level after you cleaned the valley and became aware that the leak “Disappeared” . I was exactly a quart low this morning. Third inspection after I cleaned the valley, nothing. So I went ahead and topped off The oil. Before I start it, I’m gonna go take another inspection. And then I will be putting around town again later today.

Do you do any heavy long towing with your truck? If so, is that when you noticed a leak manifestation? If you have not re-noticed another leak, have you done any towing since you’ve cleaned the valley? I suspect my leak happened, on a day in which I drove my truck 180 miles round-trip with my 4400 pound boat on the back. But I’m not sure, and I won’t be able to test that theory for another week and a half. Someone chimed in on my thread “nuther one of this Leak in the valley discussions” and mentioned possible High pressure oil leaks happening with long IcP loads,I think he said duration and low....

If you can, please update with an update so that I can be updated, because I like updates,..haha

I’ll respond here since you’re both reading this thread.

A full throttle assault through the gears should be sufficient to find a HPO leak.

Again, you can usually spot bad orings. There should not be any o-ring poking out past the fittings.

A bright light and inspection mirror are great tools for this job.

So today I only drove it maybe about 20 miles, but I didn't quite do a full throttle assault, but maybe tactical assertion perhaps. Tomorrow morning I'm going to go in there and take that mirror and my boats spotlight and get a good look in there. I'm so mixed about what I want to find. Lol.. I'd love to see no leaks, on the other hand I know it's there somewhere. So I'd love to know where it's coming from. I'll post here when I find out.

And yes Jason, my oil does look pretty healthy after 5 months. Makes me feel good about the health of the actual engine. I don't have any major problems..

An update for you, my fellow lover of updates...
No leak since. Really baffling. Since I've cleaned it I've been towing, daily driving, did a 10 hour round trip to Arkansas, and since its the daily I have fun and its seen several full on slamming through the gears all the way up to highway speed.
I might add that 90% of my driving is in excess of 45mph.
But yeah, nothing since. Really confusing, but I'm not gonna complain about no leaks

Lol..
Yeah, me neither can't complain about no leaks. It pretty much defines mixed emotions for me right now. Because whatever is filling up that valley whenever it wants will eventually we manifest, and if it does I just hope it's still renam manifest in a very minor way. I told my boat with my kids long distances, and I definitely don't want to have a completely broken issue 350 mi away from my house. I'd like to get it under control now... I haven't told my boat yet, but I definitely did that full throttle assault on all my gears a couple of times today. Took a look, no leak. Yes, completely baffling. But if you ever find it, please respond to this thread, because, I'm almost certain whatever is putting oil in our valley is the same thing. Also do the same if I come across it.

Decided I'd pop the hood for kicks and giggles this afternoon, lo and behold a nice pool of motor oil right in plain sight in the valley! Confirmed to be oil and not diesel. I need to find a diagram of the drivers side head to see which hose this is thats leaking.
Been towing alot recently, thats probably why it came back so suddenly.

Driver side head has 1 HPOP hose and the ICP from the factory. You may have the HPx line as an aftermarket addon.

My passenger side HPOP hose was leaking at the fitting after running it for 2 years. 1/8 a turn tighter and it has been good for 6 months.

Post a picture if you are unsure of what you are looking at and we will be glad to help.
