Wow, this thread is getting long, and I just went back and re-read it all and watched most of the videos. A CP4 DPK has been on my back burner for a while and I'm trying to get back up to speed on them. At 30k miles on my truck, my last fuel filter change had several metal filings in the bottom of my water separator filter housing. I haven't really seen any conversation on comparing the S&S kit (gen 1 or 2) to the SPE kit. One of my drawbacks to the gen 1 S&S came after watching most of the install video - didn't look like much fun at all. After watching the SPE video in this thread, that looks like a pretty slick system, and I think they're really on to something with preventing the shavings from contaminating your return lines and tank in the event your CP4 grenades. Why would you not want to do that? However, I wonder if their 20 micron screen is sufficient? I'm probably missing some of the finer points of the different kit designs. What thoughts and insight do you guys have on these kits?
Th new s&s DPK will have a 2 micron return fuel rating
20 microns on the SPE is not the end of the world....your lower filter filters at 10 microns and your upper filter filters at 5 microns...but in theory...2 microns the s&s offers just filters it in the s&s product. The spe solution will depend on your truck filters for fuel cleaning.
the s&s product was designed by a former Bosch engineer.
we do not know if either of these impacts the expected fuel pressure range.
I'm going to do the 2nd gen S&S. It's plug and play. So down the line if or when my CP4.2 takes a schit, it should save the injectors and the lines. Plus I like the 2 micron rated filter.
Thanks guys. I did some more research as well and got up to speed on this, much of which was from each of your postings. The S&S Gen2 will be on my list. Not to hijack this, but I've been trying to fill out a signature line with my truck in it and can't figure out how to do it under my profile. Any help?
