For those on their last legs w/injectors -- a last ditch effort using friction modifiers, (largely silicon based), stiction elimination additives (e.g. Hot Shots, Arch Oil, Rev X, etc) may buy you further time -- the treatment is not guaranteed but can be effective in quite a few cases. Third party testing, using ASTM D4828 testing standards seems to bear out most of these vendor's claims.
Always apply initial dose during a fresh oil change, then augment over time.
My mind was spinning when he told me that. For a split second I knew absolutely nothing. I was so confused. Fight or flight kicked in, and I just said, "BYE!".
The 6.0 is a love hate relationship like a good looking girlfriend that is just plain crazy...that booty though...
Once you get them lined out they are great. I did a full rebuild and my friggin oil pan leaks from the rear. So aggravating to have that issue after having it on an engine stand and rebuilt myself from the bare freshly machined block up!
How did you get her on the engine stand? I'm lucky if she straps the stilettos on when we're on vacation.
Mine are all original at 225k miles. My main issue is fuel economy ... it has slowly been dropping and is just about as low as I want to put up with. I have never had an issue with stiction.
I got my 450 at 144k, IIRC, and never put an injector in until around 280k when I replaced one and shortly thereafter a second. Both of which prolly only failed because I had an aux tank full of bad fuel and didn't know it. Each time I topped up from it on separate trips, I lost an injector. Realized what was happening the second time, drained that tank and replaced fuel pump and the other 6 are still good - even seem to have survived the theft that tore up the rest of the engine/turbo. I assume they are original stock.
I bought a new (not rebuilt) injector from Accurate Diesel for $239.95 w/ $50 core charge. I only replaced #4 since it was the only one setting a contribution code. It would run rough until it got to around 140 deg. I will save up and replace all the others at some point.
I'm not sure how I'd characterize it, affliction or affection. I know there was a lot of bad language going on while I was doing repairs, lol.
I recommend the Opti-lube oil treatment in every oil change. The spool valve is what normally goes first. If you keep the valve happy and keep fuel additive in the tank you'll decrease a lot of wear.
