I would like some recommendations on power steering pump replacements. Mine looks like it basically exploded earlier this week when it all of a sudden got whiney like Ford's do, and my brakes were spongey. I added ATF and turned the wheels lock to lock a few times and within 30 miles it was low and whining again. Upon further investigation, it looks like there's a ton of ATF all over below the power steering pump and the wheel well.
I also am wondering if my brake booster is bad too. It looks wet almost like grease inside by the brake pedal. I put new pads and rotors on my truck months ago. I spent quite a bit too; I got these cyrogenic rotors and Hawks LTS pads to go with them. But it will pull hard to the right and I feel like it's pulled to the left a few times too. I didn't have any caliper sticking problems when I did the brakes months ago. My truck doesn't get used a whole lot as I have a beater 2002 Camry I daily. I just drive it occasionally on weekends. My Fiance's Lexus has been giving me more problems than usual the last few weeks so she's been driving my Camry and I've been driving my truck, hence why I'm noticing these things more. I will attach a picture of the backside of the pedal inside my truck.
Is the OEM pump/reservoir a weak point on these trucks to the point where I should consider some sort of upgrade? Or can I just order the OEM one from riff Raff and call it done? Also, I'm wondering about the booster problem as well. My dad has a 99 dually that has only a few thousand more miles on it and he's dragged a 42' 5th wheel all over and is still running the stock steering gearbox and pump with no problems. 4" lift with 35's and I did stage 1 injectors with DP tunes on it last winter. So I'm unsure if an aftermarket pump/reservoir is more than just overkill.
Any advice is appreciated. Trying to buy something asap because I'm selling the Fiance's Lexus rx350 because I'm tired of having to fix it every other weekend, so I will need my truck up and running in case we see it before buying her something else.
Are you sure of where it's leaking? Can you put fluid in it and get someone to work it so you can see the leak? Just a week or two ago one of the members reported that he rebuilt his pump with a kit that he got at an auto parts store and it seemed pretty easy to do.
I ended up just buying a new OEM powersteering pump and line from Riff Raff just in case. I will look more into it this weekend and see exactly what I need. I probably need to replace the booster too, but not sure until I fix the power steering.
Well I was supposed to get my new power steering pump and the line k ordered today from riff Raff but it never showed up. I paid extra on shipping to have it today and it hasn't even shipped yet. So this is kind of disappointing because I've bought from them quite a few times and they are always fast with shipping without paying extra, and they are very good at updating and sending out shopping information. It's been days and I haven't gotten anything. I'm hoping this was a fluke and they haven't gone down hill lately because it has been probably close to a year since I've ordered last from them. But they were always one of my favorite companies to order anything Powerstroke from. I will have to call on Monday when they open to try and get the extra I paid for shipping back and hopefully get it shipped.
So it will be a little while until I have an update. I'm working a little extra right now because it's busier at my work now, and I won't have time to work on it until next weekend now, assuming I get everything by the end of the week. Probably nothing too major or exciting to report though. I was just wondering if there was some really great product out there for these trucks as far as powersteering pumps go, but it seems like OEM can handle everything. Maybe an upgraded gearbox in the future though.
I never expedite (UPS RED) anything anymore this time of year. It can be 80 degrees in Florida and somewhere else in the middle of a deep freeze. I understand two day delivery, same day shipping, and people making mistakes. So I focus more of quality of product and customer service. The rest..... "It is what it is."

I don't order anything online after Black Friday until after the new year. And I'm assuming this was just some fluke because Riff Raff has always been awesome. **** happens, so I'm not holding it against them. As long as they refund the difference I paid extra for the shipping, they upheld their end of the deal. I obviously would have been happier to have it sooner, but thankfully it's not an emergency for me right now. I have other vehicles.
