While recently chasing down a few leaks, I pulled and rebuilt my power steering pump. My daughter asked if I was going to paint it. I thought "why not?" Purple is not my favorite color, but I think it turned out good.
Very easy. Just have to watch to way to take it apart. There is a video on YouTube and the breaded fellow was very helpful. He even has purple gloves on.
No way I'd do all that and not replace the bushing. An exploded view would also be a big plus. The video could be done much better by someone here. I give you credit though for taking on that project.

The Gates rebuild kit in post #7 came with a bushing replacement from Rockauto. It did not arrive in the time I allowed to complete this project. Some rebuild kits do not come with a new bushing as was the case with the one I picked up from O'reilly's. But I felt no wobble or play in the shaft and could not even see a wear mark on the inside the existing bushing. That's at 337,+++ miles. However, that may not be the case for all pumps. All the pumps from this point on are not new. They are reman. I would buy the kit with the bushing, Justin Case.
Hey, good job trying that. Apparently it worked out. The video was just a little vague and left to much to figure out, at least for me. Maybe if the camera was stationary we could follow the steps easier as you disassemble and reassemble. Did the kit come with an exploded view? I'd attempt this after seeing your vid. Also I apologize for saying the vid could have been done better. I can't even post pics.
I didn't make the video. No apology necessary. And I agree with you. I wish I would have made one but I never feel like it's important enough. I recently learned how to post pictures and last night how to post a link. The kit did not come with an exploded view.
