At least they are trying to serve better food.

Some legacy locations get away with serving bad food. San Francisco Cliff House is beautiful. Great service. Lackluster food.

Well, it is most certainly not your father's Zott's. The footprint of the original building is the same. The bar on the right appears to be the original bar; at least the top looks original, although they may have cleaned it up a bit. On the left side, all the big tables are gone; replaced with a row of 7 or 8 booths. The backs of the booths "look" like they were made from the old tables. They are at least made to look like the old tables.

Ordering food is very modern. Two order stations with flip-over ipads. The order taker enters your order, then "flips over" the ipad where you can sign and pay electronically. They get your phone number & they notify you by text message. Orders went in and out very quickly; we only waited a few minutes for order pickup.

We sat outside in the garden. The area is now all level and covered with clean wood chips. The size seems bigger, but it may be an optical illusion, as the old shed by the creek is gone. There is an old truck out back that has been converted to a rolling pizza oven. All the tables are clean.

The food was good, but I wouldn't call it outstanding. My cousin had a cheeseburger and he said it was good. I had the pulled pork. It was good, but the sauce was too mild for my taste. We also had a garden salad that we shared and a small order of fries. The salad was very good. The fries were crinkle cut and crispy; not greasy.

We were there at lunch time. There was maybe 30-40 cars in the lot, and it was nowhere near "full". Must have been around 100 people inside and out. Lots of room. My cousin, who lives nearby, said in the evening the parking lot is full, and it appears quite busy. I will avoid evenings.

All in all, I would call it a massive update without losing too much of the original character. Well done. I think they can improve the food a bit, but I'm not complaining.

I had Jim at Fordstrokers.com build the engine. I can rebuild an engine but to build a Hot Rod engine I left that to a guy that does it for a living.

So from the Build Sheet it has:

427 Liberator Dart Longblock
RPM 4340 Forged Steel 4.00 Crankshaft
RPM 4340 Forged Steel H Beam Connecting Rods 6.200
Wiseco 2618 Forged Pistons (36cc, TFS) 4.125
Trick Flow Twisted Wedge 205 11R Cylinder Heads 56cc

If anyone is interested, Popeye's chicken sandwich is not worth getting into a fistfight or standing in line for. Highly over rated for a piece of chicken, 2 pickle slices, and mystery mayo.

I am not a fan.

I will stick with The Colonel, whom is favored in Libya, Lebanon, and at The White House.

I have had Popeye's chicken before and it is okay, but nowhere near as good as the Colonel's chicken.

As some of you may or may not know, and I'm sure nobody actually cares, I'm from San Francisco's Chinatown. That's only partially relevant, or maybe not relevant at all, to what I'm about to tell you.

There are times when I have to enter Federal property. There's a Federal BOP in The Bay Area. As customary & ordinary, I must enter the facility "sterile". No weapons. No handcuff keys. et cetera.

And they always have a "bopper" (Federal Correctional Officer) escort you through the facility. What are the chances that as I'm in the security clearance room, they send in..........It wasn't a serious affair. At least not for me. She was new to the country. Mr. Gorbachev had just torn down that wall. Her family was amongst the first wave of immigrants. We haven't seen each other in a score......as in 4 scores & 7 years ago. 20 years. A lifetime ago. Her family of Gypsy moved, and we lost touch.

I smile, open my arms, move in for the bear hug. She slapped me. Hard.

"You a**hole! For years, my daddy made that stupid red beans & rice recipe you taught him. He told everybody proudly, that it was Chinese red beans & rice. A family recipe handed down from his daughter's Chinese boyfriend. For years, people laughed at my dad behind his back. You took advantage of my whole family. Made people think we were stupid immigrants!"

That's the last time I teach Hungarian Gypsy to cook anything. I don't need another slap in the face like that, from a girl carrying a gun.

Later on, the Shift Sergeant asked me what that was all about. I told him. It was over 20 years ago. We were kids in school. Literally, children in high school. I taught her dad how to make red beans and rice. Who knew, he would go around telling everyone some cockamamie story about ancestral heritage, and that it was a secret recipe served to The Last Emperor.

"5150, were those beans and rice really that good?"

No sir. Just followed the recipe on the back of the package. Soak the beans. Then boil them in water.

It's all in how you tell the story and the way you dress. Once someone (or someones) are committed, they are too far in to let go of the story.

Happy Monday Nor Cal.

Well. I have the apartment to myself again. Hannah and Dojyena have gone into rehab, and will be gone for 3 months. Randy (her boyfriend) will go in next Monday. He is staying out a week to help get all the stuff out of here and into storage.
