05 Crank/No Start issue

Yet another no start after replacing the oil cooler assembly. I initially tried starting with the alternator wire a bit loose, so the GPCM wasn’t getting enough voltage. Once I tightened it down, I tried again and it sounds like it wants to catch, but doesn’t quite get there. Oil pressure is building on the dash gauge, and it’s getting oil through the filter. Do I just have air in the system, based on the attached video I took while cranking?

Since it seems I don't have enough status to post the video directly, here is the link:

What’s your ICP reading? You need about 500psi to fire up.

I have no idea about the ICP reading, I don't think my Dashboss reads that

I would have to believe that it does. That is one of the most common engine parameter.

It should, if it doesn’t you need to find a way to read Injection Control Pressure which is the output of your High Pressure Oil Pump which is what pushes fuel out of your injectors by pressurizing the intensifier piston inside each injector. You need at least 500psi ICP to fire her up. Are you building base oil pressure while cranking? You will know if your LPOP (low pressure oil pump) is working if the cluster oil gauge builds when you crank on the key. Don’t crank too long or you will burn up your starter. Do short cycles with a couple minutes between each. You might still have air in the oil system especially if you didn’t pre charge the oil rails and fill the oil sump through the oil filter housing before buttoning everything up.

Ok, found it on DashBoss. I have well over 500psi reading on ICP; it was bouncing while cranking, but was above 500 after the initial spin. I’m off to get a battery charger, as I’m now needing one.

Good, don’t crank after it drops below 11 volts or so or you’ll fry your FICM. I jumped my Excursion off my F-250 while cranking to keep the batteries from depleting. You may still just have air in the system.

Make sure cranking rpm is over 150 and that the FICM voltages are good.

I'll double check FICM on the next attempts, but it's never dropped below 46.5V (and thats usually a momentary drop from 47 when something like the AC compressor kicks in).

You can also get a sense of FICM health (in addition to checking voltage) by listening for the clattering of injectors when the key is in the on position and the engine is off.

I'm hoping you find some weird, off the wall, problem causing this, because maybe that's why my ambulance has never started after I replaced the cooler. Please post when you figure it out.

So it turned out to be something stupid simple...since I didn't remove the FICM, one of the connectors had backed out slightly when I was manipulating the harness, which is what kept it from firing.
