It really wouldn’t have mattered if it was after the holiday. I told them I would not call to check on the progress, just call me when it’s back together and they were satisfied it was done correctly. So far it’s running good. They’ve done several and had no consumption issues afterwards. We will see. I’m optimistic it will perform without using oil. I change myself every 2000 miles anyway

Now that is a huge waste of oil and money.... 2K ? I let the OLM tell me when to change but try not to go past 7500 miles.
I agree about the oil change interval. I would do 2k miles for the first change, then go about 7500 after that. 8.8 qts is a lot of oil. If you use full synthetic you can easily go 10k miles.
I changed every 2k in my old 07 5.4 since it was new Had 135k when i traded it in. It was backing spark plugs out.
But dirty oil is what plugs the small passages up in the cam phasers.
I buy Phillips 66 shield 5w20 on sale at local orschelns farm store for 1.99 qt. Phillips makes motorcraft oil. Would be very little difference in additive package. Had good luck doing this 12 years. Not going to change horses in the middle of the stream.
Oil is cheap compared to engines when this warranty expires
That doesn't sound like excessive oil consumption to me at all.
Make damn sure you don't buy a Toyota tundra if that seems bad.
I tried two as company pickups about 6 years ago, the whole trucks were junk bumper to bumper, but they also used a LOT of oil.
Interesting thought, but true. I’m looking at trucks if I can’t get this second oil-burning mill under control. While I love gadgets, I’m looking at my current XLT thinking “what in the $&@?#% do I really need that a Lariat or King Ranch offers? Nothing. I can add leather, LED’s, etc. and still come out ahead. What you say was the main reason I jumped from a KR to an XLT. Couldn’t fathom the cost to repair the massaging seats one day. I bought the “dependable” 5.0L so I could run it to 200k, but apparently Ben Dover was the truck and/or motor builder, because that word and “2018 5.0L” shouldn’t be used in the same sentence.
I have a 2011 f150 dot 4x4. I have 352,000 miles on it. The only issue is a leaking oil pan gasket. Had a electrical short (which was fixed) does not burn oil and runs like a clock.

That’s great, but your 2011 is nothing like the 2018+ 5.0L. Had I known they went to plasma coated cylinders. I’d have steered away. My sons 2011 5.0L was great. Those days are gone in my book. They’ll need to get this oil issue SOLVED without stupid fixes before I’ll ever consider the 5.0L again.
