Not sure the issues some have with engine replacement. I was severely concerned, but after it was done in one day, I was amazed. Really, it can be replaced cab-off, or with removal of the front clip. Mine, the latter.
I did shear both bolts off on the HPFP which almost left me stranded within 1,200 miles of the new mill being installed, but really, not one gremlin to date, except this truck hating me... and burning oil all over again. Now I’m not talking a third motor if offered.... they better get me out of this truck... but I’d have no concerns on the switch again after what I’ve experienced. BTW, the HPFP was part of the new long block, I’m told.

Since there was not a quart used/burned in 3K there will be not engine for me at this time. I talked to both the only service guy who knows whats going on and the the trusted tech. If mine was one which used a quart in 1500 miles there would not have been a problem. I was told I did have a 60K warrentee on the engine so there is still time. Like I said previously I no longer "baby" the truck which has been the norm with my vehicles. After being a hard working saver all my life I now am spending my children's inheritance and sold our 2013 at 40K miles when we bought the 2018. I'm expecting I'll do the same thing around 2022-3 and may not need a truck if I quit racing and needing something to tow our 20' enclosed trailer. I'm 75 now. The Mustang GT350R looked awful good on the show room floor...They only get 1..

The TSB says 1 quart in 3,000 miles, so use of 1 quart in 1,500 miles is like “DUH!” That service tech was talking like a sausage. 😜
Mine was replaced with no question when it used over a quart in 3,000 miles. Now I’m below that with the second engine, but not far behind. I’ve been trying to wandangle a deal on a new truck to get out from under this pig, and no one wants to deal. I’ll run it to 60k, another 6 months, but then I think it’s going to go. Even if I sell it outright and buy a used truck to get by. If I will get screwed on a deal in Spring because of the lack of rebates, or something else, it’ll be what I want in a truck and hopefully THAT one will go 200k. I’m starting to think I should find a vintage truck, rebuild it, and use that on the weekends, and drive a Passat until it dies.

no Smoke the service guy was just pointing out what it says and they will abide by. If i had come in at 2600 miles with it at their new add line there would be a new engine but i was at 2990 and it was just at the line. To me it could have gone either way. I'll start the process over at the next oil change that they will do anyway.

Well, after pulling the dipstick on the replacement mill a couple weeks ago, and then just before the 5,000 mile oil change, I decided I was not running this 5.0L any longer than I had to. I was set on another XLT, but with a 3.5L EcoBoost. I decided that “you don’t know if you don’t ask” and was more than surprised when the numbers came in on a new 2019 Lariat with the 3.0L. So, after much deliberation, I now have a shiny Agate Lariat sleeping in the garage. I topped it off after 300 miles of driving, and was fairly tickled at the 27mpg number (hand calculated), not knowing how full the dealer really filled it on delivery. Driving likely a minimum of 40k the next couple of years, I should see some benefits of the better economy, as long as diesel stays reasonable, and even if it goes up, I should still be fine. The dealer was miffed seeing I could save upwards of $100 a month in fuel costs at current prices. It’s drastic difference from those who drive 10k a year, when I’m about 4X that. It adds up fast. We’ll see. So far, I love the truck. I hope it’s better to me than the last one. Time will tell.

Nice. That engine catches my interest. If I was in the market for a new truck, I would test drive one.

Congrats on the new ride! Being one of the few on here with that diesel Mill, please keep us updated if you can.

What wheels the new rig come with? Just curious as I believe you had issues with the PVDs in past. I currently have the same ones your outgoing truck had and been ok so far. Keeping an eye out for a good deal on oem painted 18s

Congrats brother! You clearly are a man of great patience and forgiveness and I salute you for that.

So, if it's not too personal. did you do OK on the previous truck? Sounds like your dealer did a nice job for you throughout your ordeal and thus earned themselves some repeat business from a bad situation that could have left you justifiably looking elsewhere for a truck.

We need pics brother!

Actually, we need a nee thread for the new truck. I’m sure there are a lot of people researching the 3.0 and would like to find real accounts from actual owners. Oh, and pics in the new thread!

Thanks for the support everyone. I think I did very well. In fact, I ran the numbers over and over because it just seemed skewed. I have a great dealer and did have other prices, but not because I didn’t trust my go-to dealer, but because it was the diesel. It seems poorly marketed by a Ford, and the ones on the lot seem to have been sitting. I actually drove this exact truck last December, and all the miles on it were put there by me. 😆
I have been working non-stop, and it’s been raining for days, but I will post pics soon in a new thread. It seems the 3.0L forum sits dead and posts go weeks unnoticed.
I tried to use my ScanGauge to get a handle on soot load, EGT’s, and regenerate cycles, but the firmware is outdated, so it’s going back tomorrow for an update. This mill is NOT what I am used to after so many miles in big Powerstrokes, but I do have to say, I love it so far. Many plans to make it my own, so I’ll keep you all updated. Thanks again for the support, and bearing with my crabbing over the 5.0L. I really loved the truck and miss it, but NOT the 5.0L, and the quirks it had. The truck just hated me. 😆

Congratulations Smokes that was a great choice, No more oil burning or phaser problems the 3.0 is based on the 2.7 platform.

is just unbelievable. What we are really talking about is the fact that Ford can't design and build a V-8 engine anymore. And I am not buying anything from Ford until they get things fixed.
This all started with the multiple cams, variable pressure oil pumps, 16 injectors for an 8 cyl engine, pm rods, short skirt pistons, and sprayed-in cylinder walls. Bring back the 351W.
Simple, extremely reliable, enough power to get the job done and easily last for decades.
OK, I'm done. Someone take it from here.
Not every current generation 5.0 has an oil burning problem so take a deep breath and calm down.

Thanks, Ecoboost. I really like the truck so far, but it certainly is a different driving experience. If you are a speed demon, it’s not for you. It accelerates quickly, but not in the EcoBoost fashion. However, it pulls like a freight train, and is very resistant to mpg changes on hills and changes in traffic. I’m kind of ticked that I now have a bunch of F150LED items I bought for my XLT that I can’t use on this Lariat.... LED headlights, fog lights, ambient light kit, cup holder light kit, dash light kit, etc. I bought them last April and never put them in. 😡

Did you buy direct or from a distributor? Might be worth a call and explain the situation and why you no longer have a need for them. Some companies understand and are willing to give you a break, maybe a "restocking" fee. Else a "package deal" on craigslist, FB marketplace ETC... at a discount might be enough to entice someone looking to upgrade their XL/XLT or base Lariat and not loosing out too much.

Just some thoughts.

Lol...that’s a good thing so now you won’t have to tear your vehicle apart installing them.

I’m sure you’ll be able to sell everything as a package deal on eBay or some other way.

Congrats on the new diesel.
