My brothers 7.3 had the water pump break in the driveway today. Still have not had a good time to convert my truck to ELC the other day when I stopped in to ford to pick up the SCA the parts guys said I can just drain the green coolant than drop in the new coolant without flushing...sounded fishy to me is that accurate? Also one guy said get the gold the other said orange coolant. What would you guys do?
The E99’s had issues with ELC because of the adhesive they used with the injector cups, ELC will deteriorate the adhesive. To switch to ELC you need to do the cups with the new adhesive used in Late models and of course a thorough flush.

Basically they're saying the traditional green coolant is compatible with the hybrid gold, but it's always a good idea to flush the coolant completely when switching to a different coolant.
Also, for clarity sake it's not a good idea to refer to coolants by their color. It's too non-specific and it's possible to induce too much confusion, BUT, I know we do it all the time.
Also one guy said get the gold the other said orange coolant. What would you guys do?
The guy who told you to get the orange doesn't know what he's talking about.
Another thing, the title of your thread refers to ELC, or Extended Life Coolant. ELC for many years only meant an Organic Acid Tech, heavy duty extended life coolant known as an OAT ELC. However a few years back, company's started advertising the "gold" hybrid/Zerex G-05 coolant as an ELC, so it can be confusing without specificity.
Yes I forget I to specify Ford brands only as for the colors. See you said the guy who said the orange doesn’t know what he’s talking about which means to me orange ford brand could be bad for the truck and great for a new one. I’ll send the link to my brother and tell him get ready lol. Seems the pump has been done once already going to get the motorcraft brand dialed in tomorrow!
