VIN plate on driver's side door
I just bought this truck from a family friend and I want to decode the VIN but I think I'm plugging it into online decoders wrong or my phone just isn't working right. I was wondering if anyone can give me the information in the VIN and whether it's a good spec, as far as I'm aware it's a 1966 F250 Camper Special.
It's a 7,500 GVWR F250 so likely a Camper Special but no way to really tell other than fender badges. Nothing in a decode of this early year tells if it is a Camper Special.
F25 = F250-4 x 2
Y = 352 V8 2V engine
R = San Jose, CA assembly plant
792091 = December 1965 assembly month - 1966 model year
129 = wheelbase in inches
BM - B = Caribbean Turquoise - M = Wimbledon White paint
F250 = F250-4 x 2 7,500 lbs. GVWR
C81 - C = Medium green crush vinyl and medium green cody pattern woven plastic upholstery - 81 = 81B Custom Cab
A = New Process 435 4-speed transmission
24 = Dana 60 4.10 ratio non-locking rear differential

Thank you so much for this, it does have camper special fender badges so I know it's a camper special, but I just don't yet have the knowledge on a lot of this stuff to figure it out.
Congratulations and welcome to FTE! Tell us about yourself, where you are located and post some photos so we can share in your enthusiasm….
I live in Missouri, somewhat close to Springfield, and I worked at the previous owners farm all through high school. The truck was parked where it is between 2002 and 2004 and hasn't been touched since then, I was able to buy it from the past owners' wife since he passed away for $100 since she's moving soon to another state and has no attachment to the truck. I am 18 and haven't had any other vehicle besides a 2014 Focus SE, which I was in an accident with. I don't have really any mechanical knowledge at all, I just know I really like the truck even in the state it is in. I'll attach some pictures in a separate reply since they are all on my phone and I'm on my laptop as of right now.
Welcome! I'm just down Route 66 from you (I'm in Tulsa). We just drove up to Springfield last weekend on Route 66 and hung out for a few days. I have a 1966 Ford F100, and my situation isn't a lot different than yours (although my age is). I bought mine after it had been sitting at a neighbor's house for a few years. I probably paid too much for it, and I haven't done anything mechanical on a car/truck in over 30 years. But I was in love. That was at the beginning of March. Between these forums, YouTube, and a few other resources, I've gotten mine running good enough for me to be comfortable commuting in it.
You'll probably surpass my limited knowledge in no time, but if there's anything I can do to help, let me know. I've worked through the fuel system and cooling, with a bit of electrical, brakes, air, and body as well. There's a good chance that if you need to order a part, I've already ordered it too.
Here are some pictures, as promised Truck was spray painted black at some point in its life as a farm truck has a police spotlight right in front of side mirror Has some really nice patina on driver's side interior is a bit worse for wear clutch pedal stays down when pressed, mildly concerned fairly complete engine bay, topped with twenty-something wasp nests no battery wires installed not sure what belongs on these hooks
Feel free to let me know of anything concerning or of note
Thanks,
Froze
Wow, for a hundred bucks, that’s a bargain at twice the price. Second, that may or may not be the original motor, the later style sie cleaner, and valve covers, suggest it might have been replaced. If you are lucky, the tag for the motor giving you the displacement will still be there. I believe that it should be somewhere near the coil, front drivers side up on the intake manifold. Also, check and see if it is a 2 or 4 barrel carb.
I believe the “hooks’ you are referring are likely for the windshield washer bag. The pump is there on the fender.
Nice color combination and a custom cab to boot….nice truck, how is your welding?

I'll have to check the engine tag and carb next time I go out there, it's still at the property I bought it from.
Thank you for the clarification on the washer fluid bag, I had forgotten it had washers.
I don't entirely know what you mean by asking how my welding is, but if you're referring to my welding abilities, I'm afraid they're not great. I have some experience with MIG welding and have a Boy Scout merit badge for MIG, but I got that when I was 13 or 14 so I am a bit rusty.

Looks like you have some rust that eventually will need to be addressed, hence the welding question. If you have the merit badge, you’re probably a better welder than me already.

Still a really cool truck, and a worthy project.
Ah, that's what I figured you were talking about. Once I have the mechanical issues sorted, I'm going to start working on rust holes and protecting against future rust damage. As far as I've been able to look, the only holes are the one on the driver's side floorpan and one on the inside of the bed on the wall, but I'm more worried about getting it on the road right now.
Nice old truck, I'm very happy to see a young fella excited to own an old pickup. Many of us here are near "toes up" , so we rely on you younguns to pass the torch. You've come to the right place, lots of knowledge here....best wishes on the project
