I am looking at an 2011 F150 Limited... this model only (that I have seen) has the 2H, AWD, 4H transfer case... is it possible/feasible to change the transfer case to a later one that has 2H, AWD, 4H and 4L? or a same year case that is 2H, 4H, 4L (loses AWD)?
I love the looks of this specific model, colors, wheels, the lusty 6.2, etc... but really feel like will want/need 4L on occasion...
Yes I did the swap in 2014 on my 2011. It was all bolt in and I used the 2012+ transfercase which has 2Hi,4A,4Hi & 4lo. All you need is the transfercase and the dash switch. You will also need forscan to change the transfercase type in the TCCM which is the hardest part.
That's great news to know it's possible to change it to the 12-14 case with 4L.
I was a tad worried when I bought my '11 limited about not having 4-Low but with the super low first gear and elect shift transmission and the TQ the 6.2 puts out I've never found a time I needed it in the last 5+ years and 45k miles.
Mine spends half the year in the Auto setting which works amazingly well compared to the old control trac systems in the older explorers and expeditions.
