So a year and a half ago, my E4OD went out again and it went down to just 1st, 2nd and Reverse with no forward movement if I put in Drive so unless I’m missing something, I imagine I need to either rebuild what I have or buy a new tranny.
Anyhow,I’m finally getting the motivation to start messing with the truck outside of just starting it and letting run every week. So what’s recommended for a rebuilt E4OD, rebuild kit, or a good transmission specialist near Chesapeake, VA that won’t break the bank. It has a 302, 33’s, and 4.56s, just in case it matters. Overall, I’m just as okay with buying a good, well put together rebuild kit and having it installed as I am buying a complete tranny. The main goal is a reliable transmission that won’t cause me to get divorced. I’d like to be at or under $2000. Not sure what rebuild kits are good or what to look for in a kit.
I’ve seen Monster Transmission but I actually can’t find more than one or two reviews for them and I’m not too familiar with transmission shops around me. But any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you checked to be sure it's not your transfer case, and not the transmission?
If the transfer case isn't shifting properly, and is stuck in neutral, etc. it doesn't matter what gear your transmission is in, the vehicle won't go anywhere. It'd be odd for no gears to have any forward movement.
It'd be a shame to fully rebuild/replace the transmission, and still have the same issue because the transmission wasn't to blame.
there is more info on here to help with your troubles. almost sounds like a solenoid pack prob. are there any codes. really need to check for those on this one.
The trans works in reverse and when the shift handle is in 1 or 2. If you put it in D it won't go. Is that correct?
If that is correct pull the transmission and rebuild or replace it. The overdrive one way clutch has failed. Don't listen to those that tell you it could be the transfer case or the solenoids. It can't possibly be either of those.
Yeah only moves if I shift to 1st, 2nd or Reverse. If I shift to drive, the engine just revs and the truck doesn't move. I'm figuring since it needs a rebuild or replacement, I'll go ahead and get it rebuilt so I can pick exactly what goes in it rather than hope that whatever replacement transmission I would potentially buy has good parts. Problem I'm running into now is that I don't know exactly what to upgrade or where to find parts. I've read that some of the internals for the 4R100 transfer over and are stronger but I'm not 100% what can be swapped. Transmissions are like voodoo to me. But I defiinitely want to upgrade internals while it's apart seeing as eventually I'd like to replace the stock 5.0 with a warmed up 5.8.
So the weirdest thing happened today. I went out and started the BKO (as I do every weekend) and moved it from the back of the property to next to the garage so I could keep an eye on it. So after half an hour and letting it get up to operating temperature, I put it in reverse to back up where it sits next to my shed but decided I wasn’t lined up where I wanted. So about of habit, I put the truck in Drive and it went into gear and MOVED!!!!! So I don’t want to fill myself with false hope, but could this actually mean I don’t need a new tranny, but that a connector or sensor is bad?
