Hey guys,
Well we finally decided to pull the engine out to fix the darn oil pan before we put some paint on her. Trying to do a full reseal, up pipes, turbo mods and efuel.
May as well do efuel and a t4 since your in there....
We are doing efuel (got the strictly setup) but not swapping out the turbo. Just doing the pedestal delete. This is phase 1 then we’ll start looking at more power and intercooler options
Hey Ketih - So the truck is in PA, I was supposed to be there to help my dad pull it but he ended up getting on a roll and doing it himself, I'll got back for some of the build and the reinstall.
Here is a list of what we are planning to do:
Replace the oil rail plugs with the new style from RR
Reseal the HPOP and resevoir
Rebuild/reseal the IPR
Efuel and all the fun that it brings - bought the package from Strictly Diesel
Turbo pedestal delete, HF out, reseal turbo (zero bearing play so i'll live to fight another day there.
New collector, gasket and bolts
Bellowed up pipe from RR
New DS exhaust manifold (already replaced the PS)
New water pump from RR (Navistar)
New oil pan
Replacing the rear main seal
Resealing the oil cooler
TC/Tranny seal
New serpentine belt
New Coolant
New upper/lower/tee radiator hoses
New AC line
Plenum reseal and adding inserts
Resealing/gasketing the front cover
Cleaning and painting her up a bit
She had a lot of body work and fluid changes etc the first time around so this is a lot of the things we said we'd do when the motor was pulled......well it's pulled so time to put my money where my mouth is LOL.
She is going to paint after this and some cab corners. I'll worry about her breathing better next, trying to get an e99 setup and i'll be looking at some stage 1s, originals have 168k on them now so they are not far from being ready to replace.
I'll take any comments, recommendations or tricks if you guys have them!!!
You really should do valve springs now. Originals are worn out, trust me. They are very cheap and SO much easier to do on the stand. You HAVE to do them for any injector upgrade.
OK so not something we thought of but I’m not opposed to it. Should I get into this, can you recommend so options? Best I’d take her is a tuned stage 1 in terms of potential power.
What all would I need? Any good install videos to watch?
I am on stock injectors as far as I know, my truck revs SO easy and smooth it is not even funny with 910s (I do have a Fluidamper too) shimmed to the correct height. I would not own a 7.3 again with stock springs. I spent maybe $200 including springs, shim kits, new stem seals, and valve spring compressors. Pretty sure Comp 910-16 is part number, look for squished box deals on Amazon. I had my machine shop check my spring pressure and I think it was about 20lb low on average PER CYLINDER. They were really clapped out around 260k.
Pull the glow plugs so not fighting compression and I had injectors out, so I found a wood dowel to fit in the tip hole (HA ) to find TDC on each cylinder I was operating upon at the time.
I became quite hostile doing cylinders No 7 and No 8 in cab. Ask Byron or Jarrett.
If you have the funds, consider ARP studs while out. Push rods are a breeze cab on, I just did them because I have seen them bend on stock applications.
Heed the advice from '427 fordman' he has helped me also.
