With the exclusion of; other than; but.
"everyone except me."
conjunction
If it were not for the fact that; only. Often used with that:
"I would buy the suit, except that it costs too much."
Otherwise than.
"They didn't open their mouths except to complain."
I think the "everyone except me" example is demonstrative. Maybe everyone except me gets it?
If we are going to be so strict with language and not allow modifiers, then how many times could the word "everyone" really apply? I mean... everyone... really? all 8 plus billion of us?
Thanks for the fun banter gents. The lights-hearted chuckles are very welcome this fine Monday.
There will always be an "except" when comparing 250 to 350, if for no other reason but to declare a difference in badging and stickers. The Super Duty has evolved to a point where the 250, depending on build choices, can be the same as a 350 (including springs, axles, tires...), with the exception of badges and stickers.
I was looking at F-350 and F-450 trying to decide. Ended up buying a F-250, because:
350/450 is very hard to find around here but you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a 250
My truck will be personal use only, and the insurance agents who are forum members have always said that they almost never see payload ratings looked at after accidents
250 and 350 are the exact same truck, minus the leaf springs and rear axle. The 250 rear axle is under-rated, and additional leaves or bags can be added easy as pie if needed
250 allowed me to get a regular vehicle license plate
In short, F-250 has no drawbacks in real life, but it does have advantages. Now, if your truck is used as a business it's a different ballgame. But for personal use only, there is zero reason to avoid the F-250.
1) the F 350 and the F 450 (UNLESS your state or county is putting the screws to you) the license plate is all the same . None of them are commercial vehicles unless you state or county deems it so! I guess.
2) "250 and 350 are the exact same truck". NO not really. The difference begins at the F 350 and jumps to the F 350 Dually and then the F 450 is in another world of its own and that goes in spades if pick certain options like Snow Plow and Truck Camper Cert. F 450 is more of a hybrid with the F 550.
When I retired to my Ranch and knew I needed more than a F 250 truck. So after a LOT of deep diving and meeting with GMC/Chevy and RAM I finally turned to my DEAD LAST CHOICE Ford. I grew up on a ranch and I did not know a rancher or a farmer in Texas that drove a FORD truck, RUST BUCKETS, Fix Or Repair Daily, they were JUNK and we all knew it. SO by the time I headed back to the ranch a lot of years had passed since the 60's and its not 2010. So a LOT of research and the only truck to come close to my needs was the RAM, only its a rattle trap, noisy, and did not have a interior equal to the King Ranch.
My last stop was Ford and I KNEW I was not going to buy one they just not compete with GMC whcih I would accept. I DROVE OUT with a F 350, now I only buy F 450s. After you have had a F 450 King Ranch you never go back to anything else!!!!
I am on my 6th one and love them. Only ONCE in 14 years has my truck spent a night in a dealer and and that over my radio, it did not work. Other than that they have been perfect.
I roll at around 25k gross and 5990 lbs sitting in the bed and the F 450 does NOT sag!!! Try that with your F 250/350 in any configuration, they will drag bumper!
BRAKES: I got them, they are F 550 brakes!!!
Steering: I can make a U turn and not drive over curbs like the rest!!!
Isn't the highest GVWR 250 and lowest GVWR F350, now EXACTLY the same, with just tire pressure differences, making up the 4-600lbs in carry/towing?
I think you can actually get a F350 with a 10k or 9900 pound GVWR which would put it under the 10.8k limit of the 2020-2022 HCT F250's. Confusing as all get up.... I think with the MY2023, Ford has GVWRs of 11.5k available for F250's now.

the 10k/9900lb derating is a paper derate and has been there for a long time, I think the 9900 one is more for the Canadian market. But despite the loss of paper payload rating, you don't get the ride of a regular F250. This way the buyer can get the lowest possible registration and insurance depending on the state/locale caring more about the 3/4 v 1 ton name, or GVWR.
I’m surprised at how many low payloads you guys are reporting for your F250s.
Here are the stickers from my 2022 F250 6.7L diesel Lariat FX4. 2,814 lbs payload.
My GVWR is 10,800. I suppose a lot of guys go for the 10,000, and lose 800 pounds of payload, at least on paper. No problem registering or insuring the 10,800 here in Maryland.

Besides the fact that not all 250's are optioned with the higher GVWR package, this is the 17+ forum, so some posts are from owners of 17-19 SD's. No matter how a 250 was optioned 17-19, they only came with 10k GVWR.
Interesting read. Thankfully my payload sticker on my 23’ CC 4x4 7.3 says 3535lbs. Although I did check that out prior to purchase.
My 08 DRW was something like 4996lbs. But that thing was worked and needed it. This new one will likely be a pavement princess hauling a relatively lighter (10k/lb) 5th wheel from time to time.

To add to that, this post is FROM 2017 (someone dug it up from the graveyard a few days ago), so those first few pages all of those trucks were 10K
