Have you checked the Ford Owner's website and see if they have any solutions on connectivity for bluetooth? Have you checked to see if you have the latest version of Sync on your truck?

yes i have gone through fords steps, the issue with mine seems that the phone button will not prompt the sync service whatsoever.
I think you have to go through the radio to connect your phone before the phone button will do anything. Have you connected the phone via the radio connection/bluetooth?
Have you done a master reset? You can also select alternate pin on the sync if the phone isn't compatible. Being that this is a XL, you have confirmed it actually does have sync?
You probably checked this but have to ask. Is the phone connected to another Bluetooth device when you’re trying to connect to Sync? Has the phone ever connected to Sync or is this the 1st time? All other Sync features work? Like if you push the button on the steering wheel and say ‘Radio’, that works? / the only issue is connecting the phone? You’ve tried stuff in all 4 quadrants and gone into settings? The phone does connect to other Bluetooth devices? You see other Bluetooth devices in the list on the phone? Have you tried someone else’s phone?
Do you have Sync3 or the standard sync radio? Are you getting the add a new Bluetooth device option from Sync? I have Clarion Sync1 radio and the same thing happened to me, I had the add a new Bluetooth device scree but when I pressed the button nothing happened. A master reset corrected my problem.
