Transfer case motor not activating

I have a 2001 excursion that has had a window leak/wet fuse panel. Before the leak ... a month or so the 4x4 transfer case motor engaged properly. Now it does not.

i have manual locking hubs and have changed nothing between when it worked and when it didn't other then having the leak. The water appeared to only get on the 2 big plugs on back of the fuse panel. I removed, contact cleaned it and reassembled. Everything but the 4x4 worked fine after drying and reassembly. I also inspected the GEM and it did not appear to have any signs of water intrusion directly.

i checked fuses .. they are fine
I checked voltage at the motor plug and dont seem to get anything as the switch is cycled
I can't hear any switchjng of the relays by the fuse panel under the hood.

Any suggestions on tracing this down? i looked at a wiring diragram and the motor activation doesnt look like it passes through the gem. Could this be a gem issue, or could it be in the under dash fuse box that got wet? There's no fuses in there dedidated to the motor that i can see in the manual

the dash light does not come on.

Thank you for the reply. I actually had looked at those before and quite a few others but have seen some conflicting information.

I think I've narrowed it down to the relays or the switch itself. My confusion comes in that some seem to say the GEM plays a role in it, and others do not. I also dont see the GEM in the wiring diagram for the motor. It seems like an odd coincidence that the 4x4 doesnt work after the fuse panel ... and maybe the GEM got wet.

i guess the real question is... can i eliminate the GEM or under dash fuse box as a source of the problem becuase they don't play a role in controlling that motor?

The GEM absolutely plays a role in the activation of the 4x4 shift motor on the Xfer case in your '01. It is piggy backed to that fuse box that got wet, and it sends its signals through the fuse box and out the plugs to the shift motor. The shift motor also reports what position it is in through the same path. If the GEM receives no report from the transfer case, it will not shift into, or out of, 4x4.

I have posted some extensive info down in the 7.3L section over the last few years, to include the whole theory of operation section from the manual, and the troubleshooting steps.
