Here I am once again, with a problem on my sisters 1998 S10 blazer. Lately she says it feels/sounds like the transfer case is trying to engage by itself. It's one of those stupid electronically shifted systems. Usually when she tries to engage it, it fights her and takes several tries if it works at all. The fact that it wants to engage on it's own now is quite funny to me. I have heard of this happening before, worked with a guy years ago who had a new S10 and the t-case dropped into 4LO as he was getting on the freeway. I told my sister to pull the fuse or unplug the shift motor for now. Does anyone know what causes this?
I know very little about it. However what you have is a Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) under the dash which is activated by the switch, the TCCM then starts the shift motor which moves the transfer case shifter which also moves the vacuum switch.
Sometimes the TCCM gets confused and as I understand it, you can reset it by unplugging it for a minimun of 2min, plug it back in and then cycling the ign key on and off 5 times.
And before you check, no, it is not April 1st.
