Did you check the plug for corrosion? Did you check the fuse?

Fuse is good I checked the plug at the motor with a meter and was making good contact. No volts when the switch is turned.Changed relays around.Still no fix.

From Fuse 17 IIRC there is a DK Green with LT Green Tracer wire that should have power coming into the relays ( terminals 85 and 87 on the relays)

I had a 97 Expedition with the same prob. Found it on FTE somewhere to unhook the battery for a few minutes. 10 minutes worked for mine. Something about a warning code in the cpu for over amp rating or ??? Can't remember. The disconnect cleared the pcm memory of the issue and it didn't come back for the next two years. Sold that truck last fall when we got our PSD Excursion

Good luck.

I guess you found the relays, but a buddy of mine couldn't get power to his either. he was looking at everything in the fusebox and the transfer case relays were in a separate 2 relay box beside the main fuse box under the hood. anyway his got water in it and ruined his relay. New relay solved his no power issue.

No I do not believe that the GEM has anything to do with the transfer case electric shift. I apologize I meant to pull out the service manual for you I spaced it out and am out of town for the weekend I don't have those files on my Crackberry lol. If someone else dosent post before Monday I will when I get back home.

alstieg thanks for the response.Thought I had sent a response about the relays and hadnt. The relays are good. Ive swapped them.So im just asking a question out of the blue.thought that the gem might have something to do with it.Just trying to get it fixed.Ive been out in the cold all weekend trying to fix this thing So sometimes I think I did something like respond and hadnt.Once again sorry for the no reply and confusion.

Megawatt00 any wiring diagrams or input you could give whenever would be great.

Feel like im beating my head against the wall on this truck.Replace ball joints and it pops in 4x4 replace the lockouts with warns.and it doesnt fix it.Find out the transfer case is bad causing the popping.Replace it with a new unit and 4x4 works and it doesnt pop only to not have low range.

Slave in another transfer motor and wont work but worked on the bench.Hooked back up the other one that had worked and nothing.Checked for voltage and no volts.Swapped relays and no fix.Pulled transfer relay and thought Ihad the correct wires to jump and the lights started flashing in the interior of the truck.Got that stopped and now no light on the back of the cluster and the gem is groaning.Tryed pulling the fusebox and one plug wont come out. Finally got the gem out without pulling the other plug. And here I am. And more then a little frustrated Thanks for listening to my rant .And thanks for the help.
