Chevmn56, liquidsteam has not responded regarding where he applied his T9, but I did seem to identify it as BOESHIELD T9 available through Amazon @ $115 for a gallon ( an aerosol shows @ around $19), if I do not hear back to the contrary, I will assume that the outer, visible latch was sprayed as well as any and all internal linkages ... its descriptoon is different from that of Fluid Film in that it leaves a dry waxy film but also states in the Amazon description that it does not affect paint, plastic, rubber, fiberglass or vinyl, is electrically non-conductive and continues on and on...the write-up is akin to a miracle product...maybe somebody should tell Ford about if !!! (Fluid Film may attack rubber). If it is the answer, I thank you in advance liquidsteam.

I've used the T9 in other applications and it's good stuff. The aerosol can will go a long way.

Thanks, kry226, I was thinking of putting it into a one-quart pump sprayer to allow anything from a spray to a stream, high or low pressure. Glad to hear it is good stuff.

No worries. I'm sure that will work too.

A waxy buildup doesn't sound like the best idea in areas of tight tolerance and freezing conditions, but I'm all ears if anyone wants to try and report back. I'd be more inclined to try G96 CLP, but haven't decided yet if I am going to proceed with the recall work or not. I hit the car wash on the way home from work yesterday. This morning no issues with the rear pass. side door, but the driver's side (rear) took about 15 attempts to get latched this AM. When I opened the driver's side front door you could hear/feel some ice/frost in the mechanics, but it still latched well.

‘Wax’ was a red flag for me as well, but further reading stated that it seeps into crevices (good), dries and would need re-application where there was action and replaces itself while washing away contaminants, so I am thinking since it repels mousture, lubricates AND ( this is big) does not affect rubber or paint it woukd be worth a try ...

I hope everyone that has experienced this has created a report with the NHTSA. It could develop into an investigation, as believe it or not, door not latching is a bit of a safety issue. Sounds like it is just the kind motivation FoMoCo might need to finally put this issue to bed.

I've not had the issue, but then again Houston doesn't go below freezing very often.

I am scheduled to have all 4 doors done by a competent dealer on the 26th. They said should be able to knock all 4 out in one day. Will update.

JackalAR, is the dealer confident that they have the fix for the problem? ...it seems that a number of posters have visited the dealer for the fix but had recurrences of the problem...I'd like to hear more from liquidsteam regarding how and where he applied the T9, only on the visible latch (sounds to be the case as liquidsteam states on Nov 24 'I hit the latch') ? on the visible latch and inside the door? if inside the door through existing holes or did liquidsteam drill holes? and if so, where were the holes drilled??

I just spoke with two different Service Writers, so they don't know anything. I am already aware that there still may be issues, in which case I'll be all set to proceed with the next step(s), whatever the hell that is.

Recently happened to me as well. Interesting thing is I bought my truck (2017) in December of last year and never had the problem all last winter! Even made trips up into Vermont with all kinds of freezing wet weather. Just two weeks ago I got the "thud" when trying to close the door and knew right away what it was. Backed into garage as it was snowing at the time (figures) to let truck warm up and within ten min. latch started working. Well, fast forward and I've had the 18N03 FSA completed and a few days later (last week) the door latch is frozen again. Awesome. Bringing back to dealership for "another look." When speaking to the service writer I found out that the latch had not been re-lubricated (?? why not) but only what is prescribed in the Field Service Action. My opinion is that the grease that is being used from the factory is not holding up and wears off or is not applied properly in the case of "off the lot" trucks with said problem. I'll see what happens this week after 2nd trip to dealership and will probably spray latch myself with Fluid Film or some other treatment.

NotJustaTruck- From what you’re saying sounds like a lubrication issue, it wears off and needs to be replenished , something Ford is neglecting to do. Check out liquidsteam’s T9, from what I read about it, unlike Fluid Film, it does not affect rubber.

Delorenzomp- thanks for the heads-up. I'll look for the T-9. Yeah, it's my hunch that these latch assemblies need to be lubricated on a regular basis say every 3 months to keep operational. Maybe the latch being made of plastic has to do with it or the design is causing excessive moisture to collect on the latch and freeze? Either way since the problem did not occur in my first year I have to assume it's the lubrication or lack thereof and not the actual latch mechanism.
