Intercooler Pipe Questions

This evening I peeled the insulation off of my one inter cooler pipe for my 2000 F350 PSD and got the glue and fiberglass off with the help of a brass cup brush and WD-40. A couple of places it looked as if I was wearing past some plating and the undelying matial was not nearly as bright as most of the pipe.. Anyone know why that would be?
another thing is that ther is a good sized dent or depression in the pipe. Is that supposed to be there. It will likely be evident when I re-install them.

The dent is supposed to be there.

The discoloration is more than likely just that, discoloration from the adhesive under the foil liner. These were not precision made parts and that is why I painted mine after cleaning them up.

Thanks Sous! I was going to see if I could polish them up but if I cant make them look good, I may throw some paint on them. I assume it has to be a heat rated paint?

I used high temp (engine enamel) paint rated to something like 500 degrees. I did not use the flameproof stuff rated to 1500 degrees. I have seen standard powder coat used, not sure the heat rating on that or if there is a high temp version. The paint on my pipes held up well, except for where I scratched the heck out of the passenger side one putting it back on one time.

This time around, I plan to cover the danger areas with foam or tape before installing the pipes during the T4/SXE install.

Below is a somewhat recent picture of the pipes after ~2.5 years of being painted.

When installing the driver side pipe take care where it passes by the steering pump. It can contact there and eventually rub a hole in the pipe. That's why the dent is there, but it can be a problem nonetheless.

The driver's side pipe is a tight fit. Not a lot of wiggle room in there for it not to rub on something.

I had a wire loom near the oil fill pipe rub a nice ribbed dent on the passenger side tube. It's zip tied away now, but shows how even light contact can wear a hole in these things

I have the plug from the harness capped off and zip tied up out of the valley.

The solenoid and tubes are on a shelf in my garage. I am glad I kept everything because I will be selling it soon.

Wait... Selling what? The truck? Before or after t4 install?

Edit: I really need to think more before I post. I believe your talking about selling the spider and related parts AFTER the T4 install. I'm an idiot

That is correct. I should have been more clear or specific.

Ehh, it's clear enough if your following the conversation. For some reason my brain didn't connect it
