Got the fuel injector replaced over the weekend and runs nice and smooth again! Thanks for the tips guys! Did discover the furthest back bottom valve cover bolt only half tightened down. Got it out to find out it was bent. Not sure what the hell could have happened to bend a valve cover bolt! I bought the truck with 72K on it. Got the oasis report when I got it. Nothing on it indicates anything that would involve going under the valve covers. I've never been under there before. The stand pipes and dummy plugs were a square 1/2" drive vs. the 12mm hex like the new ones I just put in. So they hadn't been done previously. I'd hate to think that happened at the factory...but...
Interesting.
On an 05-07 the original dummy plugs and standpipes are 10mm hex. The latest updated parts are 12mm hex. IIRC the 04 engines had a square drive

I was also puzzled by the injector hold downs being the older squarish type verses the newer pointier type (at least according to the piece of paper included with the new injector from Ford). The paper had a lower torque spec for than the newer hold down. My research I had done prior had me at the higher torque spec do to it being an '05. I checked all 4 injectors on that bank and the hold downs were all the same, injectors all looked the same as well. The wire harness and wires were different colored than the replacement however, tanish vs. white on the replacement.
If they still retained the procedure during the 2005 production run, the passenger side battery negative terminal has it's 8ga cable tied to the fender. Just to the left of that connection should be stamped the month, day, and shift that the truck was built. For me it's confirmed not only by my original 2003 window sticker, but years ago when I checked it internally through Ford. They told me second shift and I didn't find this stamping until years later.
I looked in the bay, but the battery makes it hard. I can make out a 3 and then there's a number before that but I can't read it. Just the 2 numbers is all I could see. But, the sticker on the door says 09/04. So, I think it was built in September of 2004. Maybe one of the first 05's to roll off the assembly line. Wonder what else might still be '04 vs. '05 on it.
Next time the battery is out, or if you're really curious you can probably pull the securing wedge and move the battery to the center a little. It is Sept then by the sticker. The first of last day of the month can get funky, beginning of assembly or end. My sticker shows May '03, the window sticker May 31.
I wasn't paying attention for 2005 but the flip usually occurs in July-Aug time frame. BUT, as long as it's not a new platform change Job 1 of a new model year can eat up left over inventory as long as it's not a change in the brochure or mandated by the Federal Register.
