Well it’s the pump!!!!! Took it out closed off STC fitting with a clamp put IPR in applied air to the yellow “0” ring and oil poured out BOTH ends of shaft. It came out as soon as I touched the air nozzle probaly didn’t have 25lbs of pressure. If I can figure out how to post video I’ll do one up.

Ok . Now, any ideas on pump? OEM from FICM repair or White Bear Lake. Or is there an aftermarket pump that is better. This is a 2007.

Quick question. If you put air into it from the discharge side, would you get any air flow back out the suction? Also, would you see heavy flow from the shaft seals as you did with air on the suction side?

As far as pump selection goes, I really haven't seen any options touted as better than the OEM.

Jack, as soon as somebody stops by the shop to give me a hand I’ll post.

Mark, when I reverse it and put air to the STC it still leaks but only about 1/4 as much and takes more pressure to get it to leak. There is a “hole” just above the gear side shaft that you have to stop up also. What is that?

The hole behind the gear. If you don’t stop that up air/oil floods thru it.

Let me back up here just a minute. I jumped to conclusions too fast. Found a video on line on how to bench test the Hpop. The oil and spray I thought was the shaft seal was really the IPR drain back hole. That’s what that hole is. I plugged it up. And was getting air out of the intake on the pump when i applied air to the STC. You’re not supposed to plug that up. I checked mine like he did in the video and mine is fine. Now i’m Lost. Wish I could delete half this thread So from here i’m going to put Hpop back in, air test and drink a few beers no matter how the air test turns out. I’m sorry I wasted a lot guys time. I feel like Bonehead says he feels sometimes. Not giving up just taking a break.

I didn't think air applied to the discharge (STC fitting) should flow back through the suction opening (intake). That is how you hear air bubbling in the oil filter housing (at least that is my understanding).

That said, the reason for asking Mike was to get his opinion on the IPR. His post may have indicated that was his first thought. Several Techs on line have stated what I repeated earlier (that a failed open IPR usually still produces several hundred psi). That may or may not be completely true, and you may have a "unique" case as well.

I've had my share of trucks coming in, making only 80 psi of ICP that an IPR valve replacement fixed. There is such a thing that exists to bench test the mechanical function of it but at my dealer it's been MIA for a long time now. My get around for this is to get the customer to authorize an IPR replacement to commence diagnosis (it should have a new one anyways, if the HPOP is bad). For what it's worth, a new out of box IPR valve ohms out at 6.0 ohms if it matters or helps.

We test ipr with forscan, command open/closed while blowing air in,also, install a screw into it,light hits on table to clear out junk, spray starting fluid in the end to help clean, always reck valves op with forscan commands, done several,,,also between the ipr and small leaks no crank is normal, if can go to a junkyard and buy a used ipr to try, also ohm out any ipr you use. Lets get this thing going tideman before real heat gets here.

This is great information. Keep the updates. It is also helping me in diagnosing my crank no start situation.

After putting the old HPOP back in I decided to put on new wiring harness because of voltages to sensors. It cured that. I put a IPR EGR delete gen2 while I was in there. Still no start. Cranked on it for awhile this morning best i got was 47 psi on the ICP. Tried unplugging ICP nothing. I did not prime the HPOP when I put it in, so that may be why it’s not building pressure yet. Take a look at these numbers please and see if anything jumps out to you guys. On another note I read Boneheads thread about how old folks are. I’m 68 and this is kicking my ***

Also, my low oil pressure is fine. Checked it at filter and gauge. Gauge jumps quick when you turn key. Fuel pressure is great also. Scratching my head. I hope I just haven’t cranked it enough. Also took ICP out and no oil in rail.
