At some point yesterday the metal part of my key broke off the plastic piece. I can't find it anywhere.
This Saturday I was going to have a spare made. Figures. Is there any way to get a new key?
You only have 1 key? Either find yours, dealer or swapping out the ignition and then make yourself 5-6 keys. I keep a set zip tied under the truck so I can't be stranded should I lose a set on a trip. Good luck!
Yeah I mis placed them last week and decided that this weekend I'd get spares made. Well kinda hard to do that when the key broke and is now gone. Probably have to replace the ignition.

I am not use to Ford..
call dealer with vin number.. maybe they can make a key from serial number.
it is worth a try.
one key is always asking for a problem..
for a while, Wife would leave key in car with engine running and door locked... after the third trip to help her..
6 keys.. one pinned inside of all her coats/jackets.. she got angry.. but it stopped.
Try a local locksmith...They should/may be cheaper than a dealer and should have access to the same 'key codes' as the dealer, as I'm pretty sure that you're not the first person to have lost keys...I know they did that with a Dodge Caliber where the owner lost the keys...
I've had a mobile locksmith come by and make a new key with a file over the course of 20 minutes of trial fitting. That was for the old single sided key, not sure if that approach will work with a double sided key, but is one option..
I called the dealership just now after searching yesterday and today everywhere I was with no luck. Probably buried in the snow somewhere. The guy said he can get me one if I bring him the title, drivers license, proof of insurance and registration. No problem there. He said Ford's database only goes back ten years but they subscribe to another one that he's sure they've gotten keys for a 2000 from. It will cost me $75 when it's all said and done. As long as it works I'll be happy.
I'll see if I can get a response on here. This time it's not my truck. My bosses ignition tumbler broke it wouldn't unlock. He had it all hillbillied up to get the truck to start. He wanted to k ow what the best tumbler to replace it with is. I'm curious, can you get a tumbler to match the original key or no?
