DL3Z-19A390-B. Ford Remote Access System (For app-based unlock)
That's the part number I ordered ~1 year ago. What they sent me had part number DL3J-15603-AA on the actual modem. Worked fine, nonetheless. Will see if it works on the F350 with a different VSS soon.
I purchased the OEM Remote Start system. Ford Perimeter Plus + Bi-directional Antenna + Key Fob. I can't seem to find a clear answer: do I NEED to visit a dealership for IDS activation? I have used FORScan to activate the remote start in the computer and cluster settings.
I will NOT be using my phone to remote start, only the key fob.

No you don’t need to go to the dealer if you have FORScan. You just need to be sure to activate it in the two different modules I wrote about above to make it work. I believe it is the body control module and the instrument cluster module.
Is the factory installed remote start a bi-directional one?
The factory remote start is not... but you are generally close enough to see it start up. The optional Long Range bi-directional kit obviously is, but requires an additional small FOB & antennae. The optional smart-phone kit & app will confirm the start.
OK, I am not sure how relevant this data is, or useful is, if there is a difference in FOB's. My truck came with factory remote start, and it is a switchblade style key/fob. It has a 194 yard range, at least, range. Stood and the window of my office, lock, start x2, saw the lights. It could be longer, as this was LOS.
This said, on my last truck, I had an astro-start system, and it had a similar range. But it took me 5 hours to install. Everybody under 30 should have to install one of these once in there life.....
can i use a ford remote with the remote start button will work?
this what my key looks like
this is what i want to buy to use i know i can program the key to the truck. but will the start button work on this key with the unit you show in the video?

I’m in a similar pickle- I bought my truck as a “certified pre-owned.” It also did not come with factory remote start (just keyless entry with flip key). A Ford remote start was added remote start with the separate key fob.

I want the key like he’s mentioning and know I can go to https://northcoastkeyless.com/shop/f...-pn-164-r8134/ and purchase a new/used key. I know with the flip keys, you have to change the key by knocking the roll pin out and removing the key from your old fob and install on the new fob. One thing I don’t know, if I purchased this new flip key fob with factory remote start (4 button) will it work after reprogramming? My thoughts would be to purchase two of these keys, reprogram and ditch the factory keys & additional key fob for remote start. Make sense?
