Remote Start

Does anyone know what one needs to get remote start going on my 2017 f250 6.2 liter? I bought this truck without remote option. I used forscan to enabled remote in the bcm and confirmed that there is a switch under hood. Do I have to get any other hardware installed or all I need to do is buy new fob with remote start on it?

Lots of threads and post, part numbers, etc on this. But you'll need a VSS (vehicle security system) module, RMST (remote start) module and a dealer that can activate the VSS for you.
But that can be done with a phone call from any dealer who will get on Ford Service's website from anywhere in the country. I live on the NY/Canada border and have had one activated from Banner Ford in Louisiana and my most recent a couple weeks ago from Fairway Ford in Ohio.
But beware that Ford has discontinued these modules and they're getting scarcer & pricier.
Search this lengthy thread and I think the part numbers are in there somewhere.

I priced out an installed factory remote start FOB at $165 at my local dealer. Pretty cheap I thought?

Can I be a jerk and ask how long the truck will run once remote started? My GM's only run 8min. before shutting off or starting a second cycle.

I just did this mod.

Remote, VSS module and Antenna is all you need. It is all plug and play except the dealer or FORScan programming. It is very easy assuming you already have the hood switch. I paid about 285 for all the parts with the upgraded long range two way factory remote.

It runs for 15 minutes. Using my cell phone app I can hit it at any time and add 15 more. That question is not being a jerk at all. Sorry for the redundancy. Didn't see that Paul had already answered.

Didn't you have to get the VSS activated by a dealer? I don't mean visiting a dealer. Both of the factory systems I installed had to be activated by a dealer logging into Ford's service website and punching a few buttons.
Fairway Ford then locked, unlocked, started and shut down my truck remotely from their location. Took maybe 5 minutes. Then I was all set to do it with the cell phone app and the fobs that I'd programmed myself.
I'd already changed the BCM settings with FORScan.
To the OP, if your hood is open and you have the warning in your message center, then you have a hood switch. They aren't as easily spotted by opening up the hood like in the previous generation trucks.

No, the VSS doesn't need to be "activated by a dealer". You program that yourself. The RMU is what gets activated, and that can be done remotely by the reputable dealer that sells you your VSS and RMU.

OK, so I had the modules scrambled. As stated I've had it done in the past by 2 different dealers after my self install.
The last module was bought on ebay from Tasca and they said that they didn't have the ability to activate it. Plus it took about 3 weeks and opening up a case with ebay to get the thing. Fortunately Fairway took care of activation for me in about 5 minutes.

I just received my kit from Banner.

The activation process may be delayed. There may be a delay no matter who you got the remote start from.

ATT is doing a service update that has affected the server for SpinDance, and they are still working on getting it back up.

I will keep you posted

Glad that mine's in and working. We're in the midst of a cold snap. The high today is expected to be zero or lower.

I have the 'regular' remote start, just not the phone version and the perimeter security.

I like the confirmation that it is started, with the phone app.

Does the kit also have a WiFi option? If so, what speed is it?

I wound up never using the lower tier fobs that came with my antenna kit. I bought a bidirectional so that I could see if the truck had started and was running when "locally" remote starting the truck.
As far as wifi, I honestly could not say. Maybe forum user Pocket will happen along and see this. Very knowledgable on these. You could probably even PM him. He was very helpful to me on the last install.
