That's because many of those stations are located in the high desert areas and its now off-road season so they are gouging the folks that are bringing their toys out to ride them. I live on the west side of the I.E. so our prices are around 4.50 for mid-grade gas and diesel. Not great but not like those desert spots.

Thank you for lending a different perspective. Those of us that don't live in or travel to the west coast very often usually only see the worst case because that's all the news outlets think will be attention grabbing. While it makes me cringe to think of paying $6.69+ for fuel, I did wonder, looking at the surrounding area, how far away from civilization this station might have been located.
I do know from a recent trip through the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana that there were places I felt like I would pay what ever price they posted just to not have to walk 50 miles in 30+ mph wind carrying a 5 gallon container. And it was ALWAYS a headwind no matter which direction I was traveling!!!
That's why I mounted an aux fuel tank onboard two years ago. Eliminated the fuel anxiety and I could be more flexible towing the RV.

Once you pass Needles which is the the eastern end of I40 entering CA there is nothing till Ludlow (roughly 90 miles) then Barstow another 90 miles +/-. There are a couple smaller gas stations in between but it's still CA and still off the interstate and these prices are the norm all the time. I've worked this area for over 14 years now. Beautiful country if you can see the beauty in a desert trying to stick, ***** or kill you. You use to be able to take old Rt 66 but the flooding took out a bunch of the small bridges over the washes. You can still drive around the bridge washouts with a truck if not pulling a trailer if you wanted but wouldn't do it if wet/ raining. Just made the run yesterday. Desert trying to reclaim itself.
