Please help quick !!!!
In the early 1990's a customer at the front counter bought something (I don't recall what), then looked at the box and started yelling.
I walked up from the back counter to see what the fuss was all about.
Parts box said: Hecho en (made in) Mexico

First car assembled in Mexico: 1989 Mercury Tracer. Some Super Duty's were assembled there (but I don't recall the years).
I do know that the Fusion (and the 'rebadged Lincoln version') is assembled there (first digit of VIN: 3).
I doubt very much Ford will ever use China to make parts for them like I've heard GM has done. Ford is WAY too picky about materials, tolerances, etc. And China is uncontrollable IMHO. Not only does Ford want to put out a good product, but our parts now carry a 2 year manufacturer's warranty.
Example:
B8Q12171A points are made in the good O' U,S.A.
C9AZ12300A condenser are made in Mexico.
But Ford is willing to warranty it and Mexico is not China.
The usual wheeze: Why would I buy a genuine Ford part made in Mexico, when I can buy a generic part from an auto parts store for less?
How many people do you know in todays world that specify genuine Ford parts (if they're still available or NOS) for their "old rolling piles of misery?"
Those that buy parts from auto parts stores, or repro parts from Carpenter and etc. may not know it, but most of these parts are made in China.
Can't wait for all of our food to be imported, too. That'll be swell.
