1994 Explorer push button 4x4 does nothing.
Hey guys. First post in the Explorer section here.
I'm sure that you're going to tell me that this question has been answered 1,000 times and I should have searched it because I understand this is a common issue. However, I haven't seen a good writeup on what to diagnose first and the search function has never really helped me out. I wish it had the search Google feature on it, that's usually a lot more helpful.
Anyway, when I push the button absolutely nothing happens, no lights, no 4wd, no noise from a little motor or anything.
Is the switch the most likely culprit? Where are the fuses and/or relays that are tied to this function?
Thanks!

there are a couple different fuses that run the 4 x 4, but they also control dash lights, transmission shift, etc... If everything else works, probably not the fuse.
Most common problem on 20 year old truck would probably be the shift motor itself.. I think I would pull the electric plug and check for voltage at that point.. If you have voltage, maybe pull the motor, set on floor and test operation.
