´56 ...not a "build thread" more a "modification thread"...

...after i asked a lot of questions over the last years, here in this forum, i thought to let you guys know what i,m "building" now.
My Trucks original suspension was worn out, so it needs to be overhauled. I thought about overhauling the original axles with leaf springs or put something new (IFS, 4link) in.
So i decided to go with brandnew stuff.

before disassembling

First i ordered a TCI Custom IFS.
Then we started disassembling...

not to forget, the truck was/is Big Block equipped, what will become an issue for me later...

first mock up

...after the IFS crossmember is welded i located the engine in the same position where it sat before.
But this won´t work because the cast oilpump is too close to the steeringrack. I were sure original oilpan won´t fit...but the oilpump!?

Okay so i move the engine 1 5/8" forward and raise it 1".
Later i will weld a "custom" oil pick up and an oilpan by my self.

...next Issue is the lower controlarm bolt is rubbing the steeringrack dustboot, this is not really clever constructed,

I cut the brackets and welded them on the upper side closer, than i notched the crossmember and tilted the rack that will give me some room between rubber boot and bolt and will help me between steeringshaft and header.

also i removed my first try motormounts and cutted newones out of 4x4 tubing...

Looking good.
Got a question or 2.
Why didn't you run the rack bolt in from the front? Then all you have sticking out would be the head of the bolt and should be shorter to clear.

With all the posts of Crown Vic front end swaps why did you not go that way or is the CV too wide?

The boots should clear when you have weight on front end. Moving rack may be a problem with adding bump steer.

The Bolt what came with the Kit has capnuts on both ends, but yes that would be an idea, to use a generic bolt put in from the front.
I wanted that custom IFS, i like it and it was supposed to be "easy fit" .
