interesting results.
They were all comparable in everything except loaded ride quality.

My takeaway was the ford was better in that area.

Now they need to load the ram and ford to the max and do it again and see what happens.

Just like past models, higher altitudes have been a burn under the saddle for Ford.

Also f450 towing 30k got 2.3mph I believe. A f350 towing ~23k get only .3 better at 2.6mpg? More hints at the Ford being in regen? Also yes the Ford can tow 30k and the chevy can't but that doesn't give the Ford an excuse to be slower when towing the same weight. Everything points to the Ford being faster but it was not on this test.

Now, if they would take three models , identically equipped, of each brand; I.E. compare chevy to chevy to chevy, the results would be similar. One would come out the best, one would come out the worst! Just the way it is! Also, go back next week with three different Ford, Chevy, Dodge trucks and the results will be different!! But, thank God for the great competition between the manufacturers!!!! It has given us great trucks!!! And I am still keeping my ,
Even though it is an old antique 2016!!!!😎😎

Roughly 16 seconds difference between 1st and 3rd going up a 7% grade for 8 miles. These few seconds means squat to me for the job at hand. I would much rather want this comparative data at the beginning and end of each run:

1) Oil temp
2) EGT's
3) Coolant temp
4) Tranny temp

If the Chevy is 16 seconds quicker, but the tranny or oil is 75 degress hotter, who's the real winner? We'll never know because they don't report this data. Speed up a hill is not the only thing that should be considered for a working truck.

I'm disappointed in the results of this Ford. A couple of things - when the instruments were shown on the downhill run, I can see Tow/Haul is lit, but I cannot see the indicator for the exhaust brake being turned to full on or auto. Its possible its being obscured by the tach bezel, but I can see most of the odometer.

Now oddly, on the uphill run, the one shot where they show the cluster, look at the boost gauge. It is only running about 20psi. At wide open throttle up a hill like this, it should be running closer to 30psi. Heck, I've seen close to 30psi on much smaller uphills.

You could blame the Ford's slower performance on the other trucks simply being "ringers" or the Ford being "a dud," but these were the same trucks in the 0-60 run, where the Ford was quicker than both these same other trucks!

Fuel economy is kind of silly. They are determining the result simply based upon the dash computer. Who knows how accurate they truly are.

Is it possible some weird transmission shifting prevented the Ford from being where it needed to be? Not sure. It seems the "Midnight IKE" from a few months ago with the 450 towing 30k up the IKE was quicker than this truck!

Ah, but not all three lower gears like the SRW's so yep, not applicable.

Not true. TFL did this same test with the maximum RAM and the new F-450 towing 30k up the IKE. The 2017 F-450 was MUCH FASTER than the RAM, as expected. Of course the truck tested here and that 450 have the same engine, and gearing with the tire differences is nearly a wash. So kind of strange.

If the Ford was in regen mode, it would not make as much power. But what's the likelihood of an active regen happening towing that much weight up the IKE? It would be a passive regen all the way.

No way in real life that RAM is quicker. It is always the slowest of the bunch. But I'll give GM credit where it's due...those D-maxes have always been potent.

Good thing I haven't taken delivery of my truck yet...I've still got time to go buy a new Chevy. Whew, that was close!

NOT!

I think there was some anomaly throwing the Ford off (regen possibly), but at any rate, these results just go to show that all 3 trucks are more than capable of towing heavy in extreme conditions. Buy which one you like the best and rest assured that it will perform admirably well.

Now, let's see the results in the middle of the summer when it's 100 degrees and the conditions are really extreme!

I thought I heard a call for help on you tube.

Times mean nothing and the Ike is a beast of a run. I have my rose colored glasses on and the was best.

It would be interesting as said if they would show temps of the operating systems along with the other fluff info.

Good points. Something doesn't wash after the last test compared to the previous.

I did not buy my 2017 SD because it was better then Chevy or Dodge and I sure as hell did not buy it to compete against them, I bought it because I like it and I will keep it, period.

Fordman makes a good point; it would be interesting to see what the ambient temp was at the bottom and top of the climb. One major difference between Ford and the others is intercooler design. Ford uses coolant; RAM and GM use ambient air. Colder ambient temps greatly benefit the power-making capability of the RAM and Chevy; hotter temps benefit the Ford.
