Here's my truck next to my co workers, exact same tires size both f350 with 20" wheels Fx4. The only difference is his is a lariat and mine is a KR. Both beds are empty and his tool box is completely empty.
Thanks for posting. Was the parking area level? Would have been nice to have seen a photo taken from the passenger side of the '17 looking toward the '16 to see if you could even see the hood. The truck looks taller to me. I don't get how the specs are only showing a 1/2" difference in height. Sure looks more like 2"+ me. I need to take my truck into my work garage one weekend and see if I fit. It is 7' according to overhead signs. My '09 F 250 fit fine just the antenna would hit the sign.
Strokin, I appreciate the pics you took the time to post, but I cannot call that scientific. That front bumper is going to pull the front end down, and even the custom bumper on the back will pull the back down a tad. That truck is also not brand new and has had more time for the springs to settle a tad, the toolbox adds a small amount of weight. That generation of truck also had rear springs that squatted easily. And, the parking lot looks like your truck is parked on the high ground.
If the hood is higher, one other measurement that would be interesting is the windshield height. The old truck looks like it might have a taller windshield? This could accommodate the difference in hood height.
Friday, if I can remember to do so, I'll be at the dealership. That parking lot is pretty flat and they still have some 16's parked next to the 17's.
I just feel overall the trucks are within about an inch of each other in height. I think ground clearance is the same. I'm not doubting what you're saying, I just have to see it and measure it myself. I remember when I bought my 2017, before I got my truck, the first 2017 the dealer got was an F-350 regular cab 4x4 XLT on 18" wheels. It was parked next to a 2016, and I thought...wow...its really tall. But I remember realizing the mirror height and cab step-in height threw me off. Actual roof height wasn't much different, and neither was ground clearance. They use the same tire sizes and front axles...so ground clearance must be the same.
I can tell they are pretty much identical in the front as I have hard time reaching the very center of the hood to get the wax on both of the trucks.
Ditto. I've noticed the reach to the center of the hood is equally difficult. I also typically climb on the front tires to wash the windshield and area around the roof clearance lights. Same level of difficulty. Obviously non-scientific.

T-Man, if you think about it see what you come up w/ at the dealership.
I feel like it is better than 2", (at the rear) but I haven't put a ruler to it.
No, I don't, but I have no interest in bashing anyone. And I wasn't talking specifically about the Ford. I think it's time we lost the Fan Boy mentality with ALL manufacturers and start taking them to task. These trucks cost a mortgage, and to have you're engine replaced at 300 miles, or your driveway covered in tranny fluid is ridiculous. Do you call that dependable or quality? And none of that has anything to do with EPA or regulations. The Ram and GM trucks have their quality issues too, goes the same for them. The L5P isn't exactly without it's own teething issues.
I'd certainly buy the last truck to the top of the mountain when I know it'll actually make it to the top of the mountain, and then get me back home too. When the MFRs finally know we'll vote with our feet and not buy a truck just because that's the truck Daddy had, I think we'll find we have their strict attention.
And I, for one, will never stop expecting a better product for my money.
Amen! I completely agree about the fanboy attitude so many people have. I buy what truck I feel is best at the time despite being a dodge guy at heart. Back in 2015 I did my research and drove all 3 trucks and bought the Denali duramax cause I hands down felt like that was the best truck at the time. This year I needed a tax right off and after much research I felt the ford is the best right now so that's what I bought. So many people just support a brand just cause their a fanboy... drives me nuts.
I'm sorry but I don't find this video scientific in the least. First off, who says they are all being driven the same? I'll stick to my ford. Don't trust that video at all.
Guys, it is what it is. TFL has never claimed to be making "scientific videos". In fact, they have stated exactly the opposite! They're just some guys trying to drive trucks the same way up the same route, so maybe potential buyers can make more informed decisions. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you're crushed because the Ford lost, go buy something else. Otherwise, just enjoy your truck as-is, and quit trying to justify yourself or your purchase.
But if you are crushed, I suggest you have more important issues to worry about than which truck you own.

I'm crushed because Ford lost, and I'm personally crushed. I'll be stopping at a shrink to get my head straight on my way home from the Chevy dealer in my brand new 3500 L5P dually, LT trim, in Deep Ocean Blue Metallic...and the world will be right again!

Amen it is what it is i think this tread has gone on long enough
Ok last night I measured my garage opening. It measured at 82". I pulled the truck in as far as I could and right above the rear seats it started to rub the rubber gasket on the garage door. So I know for a fact my truck is taller than 82" and closer to the 83" like I measured. So if the 11-16 are 80" tall I was right when I said the new ones are about 3" taller. Which to me is a lift and when you put a lift on the truck it's less aerodynamic. I'm not saying that is the reason the Ford was slower cause I think the gearing in the trans is the main reason. But it did play a factor in it.
