Installed Remote Access

I installed Ford's Remote Access system yesterday and it works well. You have to have the VSS module installed first then the Remote Access module plugs into it. Usually close to $600 for the 2 modules on Ford Parts Site or a little less on others Like Tasca bit was able to Find it on eBay new for a little less than $300 from Fairway Ford. After activation I tried the remote lock and remote start features using my Samsung S7 Active phone without the key inside or near the truck. It gives you the option of pressing the start button inside the truck to drive it and I was surprised that you could in fact press the start button and drive it without the key present.

Oh wow that's sweet. Do you have a part number for us please?

Found this on eBay, looks like what you described.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2017-Super-D...NYI1Fo&vxp=mtr

You have to have it activated by a Ford Dealer and there is an annual $50 subscription fee to somewhere? I assume for cell connection? Sounds good to me.
Just wondering if there is anything else that can be added like location info. Could I find my truck anywhere in the US?

Did you have to take it to dealership to have it activated, or did Fairway do it over the phone?

That is the correct listing and I I just had to call the dealer for them to input my VIN and generate a PIN. Once you have the PIN, you input that as well as SIM card number and activate your account with the yearly $49 fee for cellular access. Pretty easy.

Shouldn't our trucks already have the VSS module (assuming you have the security system and remote start)?

They do not come with the VSS module. We have Perimeter alarm. I already had factory remote start as well. This provides Perimeter Plus alarm with an added shock sensor (has adjustment ****) in the module. Out trucks monitor doors and hood for opening and motion in the cab with the 4 overhead console sensors that come with the standard alarm package. I don't think it's even an option when ordering, Ford Accessory only. Some dealers do install once they get cars/trucks and add to window sticker as dealer installed option. At least this is what I found when doing research.

And this

And the VSS plugs into the shocksensor box!

The shock sensor is in the VSS module which has a harness that plugs in behind the OBD port. The remote access module plugs into the VSS module.

Ah so given I got the shock sensor already added simply have to add the remote access. Thank you. I will look into this further as a two way alarm is my goal and if my phone will tell me or alert when it actives I will likely purchase this.

The listing say you have to take the truck to your dealer to have them activate the smart fuse box to recognize it.
This is an easy "Plug-N-Play" installation. We provide complete installation instructions. Though you may want your local dealership to install this item because after installation your Ford will need it's Smart Junction Box "enabled" (flashed/programmed) to recognize the newly installed remote start & security kit. This must be done at any Ford or Lincoln dealership. Price varies from dealership to dealership for this service. We charge $45.00 here at Fairway Ford for this enabling service.

Once this is installed are you able to glance at your phone and verify if the truck is locked or unlocked? That would save me a lot of running back out to parking lots to see if I remembered to lock my truck or not.
I looked into this but didn't find any info on the features, would you mind sharing what features it offers. Thanks in advance.

I'm starting to think this is not really worth the expense or trouble, for me at least. All you can do is start and stop the motor, lock and unlock the doors, and make the lights flash so you can find it in a big parking lot. The remote does all of that, just not from as far away.
The reviews for the software are brutal. Very poor rating. Very few features.
I guess it does add the shock sensor for the alarm. If you live in a city maybe that's worth it.
Does it do something I haven't listed?

The software does give you the lock status of the doors which is one of the primary reasons (besides remote start distance) that I installed it. I never read reviews for the software but haven't had any issues with it either. It's not extremely flashy but it doesn't need to be for me. I would not have purchased it for anywhere near the MSRP but for the price I paid and the features I get, I'm happy.

You can set up the app to alert you if the alarm is triggered. I have mine set to send a text message to my phone, and it will tell me if it was the shock sensor triggered or a door opened. Usually I get the text in about 5 seconds after the alarm starts going crazy, so it's pretty quick.

Another feature is that when you click the remote start button, you'll see a countdown timer. If you hit the button again, it will double your run time. Something you can't do with the key remote start or with the long range fobs, as you have to wait for the truck to run through the full time before you can remote start again. This is good for those who want to extend the run time of the factory remote start to go for as long as 30 minutes (instead of the factory maximum 15 minutes).

it would be nice to be able to start the truck from a distance, like when it is parked in the parking garage at work.
onstar phone app on my gmc was great for this.
