Yup, seen that before.
Mine broke when I reinstalled a new filter after an oil change so I didn't even know the tabs broke. About 15 miles later it died on a turn & I was towed home. Wiped out my HPOP.

So you think at oil change that we should start taking a close look at
the top of the stand pipe to see if it's in good shape?
I wonder if it should just be replaced after spending it's service life
in oil. How many years do you think it takes for the plastic to
start to get brittle in that environment?
Also is the stand pipe Ford only part or can I get one from IH?
Anyone have the part number for the IH one if there is one?

You can probably guess what I think. These trucks are getting old. With all the heat cycles the plastic gets brittle. For a round number rule of thumb if it's 10+ years or 100+ thousand miles I'd change it. If your doing an oil cooler, change it. That's my thought.

Now that the newest of the F-series is 10 years old I'm going to add this to the list when I do oil coolers now. Ill take a peek at my truck at the next oil change in the spring. For reference this particular truck has 218,000 miles on it and the last tech...well, lets just say hack!
I have to do an oil change in the next few days. I am thinking
that if I can get my hands on the part before I do the change
that I will also change that too.

And while you are in there inspect the oil bypass valve.
Sean, I've got the part. I'm waiting to make a short 84 mile run to post temps before install. Then install it there and drive back and post temps then. Just haven't had time to make the trip. That is the only time mine does 30+ spreads. I want to show if it does or doesn't make any difference.
Guess I can wait and see what you come up with. Also I think I can wait on doing any biggish project
until it warms up some. Taking a look at the plastic pipe is an easy thing to do when I change the oil.
I think I will put the replacement of that part along with the a new bypass valve. A new spring with the
valve will be something that should be also done.
