While in the shop yesterday diagnosing my 3rd injector problem in the last year my Ford mechanic ( good friend ) told me it is time to replace my oil cooler.
I think I will do the EGR delete at the same time. Like most i am on a budget but what else should we do while inside ?
This is a work truck during the week and pulls my boat ( 10k lbs. ) some weekends. I would like to keep this truck running good for many years.
The truck has 177,000 miles on it, avg. 18 highway and 15.6 city.
Thats all i did with my the first time and i got mine from mkmcustoms.com its there sinister egr delete and it comes with an oil cooler i thought it was relatively inexpensive and arrived quick.
Toss on a coolant filter along with the oil cooler and EGR delete. Might want to consider STC fitting update along with standpipes and dummy plugs. Shouldn't be too much more than $300-400 in parts and there shouldn't be much extra labor since you're already pretty far in there for the cooler.
Since you keep having injector issues, make sure your fuel pressure is good. If not, the upgrade spring is a quick, easy, and relatively inexpensive fix.

Agree on the blue spring for the fuel. When was the STC fitting upgraded by ford and put into these engines at the factory or were they ever done? I did the fitting on my 05 but not sure when it was introduced as I know some of the parts are on the later motors.
Coolant filter is a good idea also. Does it have the bigger turbo supply and drain lines and also when was the stand pipes and dummy plugs updated. Clean your turbo also.
Ford most likely installed the one-piece fitting on 08 and up E-series at the factory, but not in any of the trucks or Excursions.
The 07's will have the upgraded turbo supply and drain lines/
IMO, a BulletProof EGR cooler is a better option than the EGR delete, but that is personal opinion. Choose one or the other. If you delete the EGR, I would advise also getting a tuner w/ custom tunes that take into account the deleted EGR system.
with that many injector problems Id be throwing that updated fuel press spring in
if you want it to be problem free for awhile do the STC fitting stand pipes and dummy plugs
and I know you said deleate the egr but if you went with one from bullet proff diesel IIRC they have 100% success rate so they say and Iv never heard of one failing on here and it would save you from having to spend all that money on a tunner just a thought
BPD has acknowledged a limited number of failures - attributed to poor quality work from a specific employee that did not work out (and did not last long enough to weld up very many units)!
I was impressed at their honesty! Their work is quite good and they are a fantastic company.
