long story short I have another c6 tranny and I dont know what yr it is.
Since they make two different rebuild kits. On top it says 68 4x4 , looks like it came from a junk yard.
Out side of case looks to me like it is D7-AF-7006-AA
I'm going to go out on a limb and say order the 77-91 kit.
Ford casting numbers can't really be used to reliably check for model years, but you can get a general idea.
The first digit is the decade, D=70's, the second digit is year, 7=7th year, so it looks like the casting numbers indicate 1977 or later.
It doesn't make sense that the D7 would have been from an earlier year.
If it's an early C6, the manual valve detent should in the valve body later C6's had it in the case. Also early C6's reverse clutch piston uses a check ball. 77 and later valve bodies have the check ball inside and not in the reverse piston.
Given the casting numbers on your VB I would say it is the later C6.

You lost me on the outside dent and inside. Do you have a picture ?
