All 302's installed in cars/trucks used C4's from 1968 thru 1977.

1978 was the first year a C6 was available in an F100/150, as an option.

1978's have both, most 1979's have C6's.

C4 = 11 transmission pan bolt holes / C6 = 17.

Block casting numbers will not tell what the engine came from, what year it is, or even what size it is, for one simple reason.

Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to part numbers.

If the block casting number is: D2OE, that doesn't means it's from a Torino, it also doesn't mean it's from a 1972.

Ford may have needed to cast additional bare blocks in 1972 for use as service part replacements.

The block could be anything: 289, 302, 351W, 351C, whatever.

Block casting numbers are worthless for ID'ing just about anything.
