You forgot about him holding a wrench near the battery terminal (been there done that).
My guess is posing for a picture (grab something and look busy), although she does appear to have a wire harness or rubber tubing in her hand. She is smart by not wearing her wedding ring (if she has one) while working on the car.

 

Is that an additional cooler in front of the radiator?

I think you're looking at the upper grille brace. Maybe she's just leaning on it, and all the work is going on behind.

When I saw the License Plate on this Deuce, I remember it had been featured in Hot Rod many moons ago with the Plate being the Article Title. The Owner knew someone at DMV or elsewhere, and arranged to snag it. Probably the first ever personalized Plate.

 

Came immediately to mind......
