Installation manual (TPMS cannot be used with all steel carcass tires)
That means they cant be used with any radial tire?? That doesn't make sense. The way I read the instructions the sensors also cannot be installed on Aluminum wheels. How many wires go to the camera itself, My existing camera uses on 3 wires, I already have that harness all run. Id like to make an adapter cable and use it.
For you guys that want to run TPMS in multiple trailers, before you drop a bundle with Ford for more sensors, go to Discount Tire and ask about their EZ Sensors. These new sensors can be programmed to look just like your OEM sensors. On my current truck I have three sets of tires/wheels. I no longer have to do a relearn on the truck when swapping between summer and winter tires.
I got mine for less than that at Discount Tire. I think it was around $35. Maybe they felt sorry for me. I had just had them install some Schrader sensors I bought off of Amazon and only one of them worked right. The other three were very "off".
Well I'm sure glad I found this thread!!
I'm pulling the trigger on a '17 this week. Guess which options I'm dropping now.
For $400 i would rather have the Tireminder smartphone system that will bluetooth to my phone for the moniter and include wheel temperature and be able to connect over 20 sensors, then shelling out a g note for Ford proprietary complicated wires
Fords whole camera system is poorly thought out too.
Why no infrared?
Just completed the install of the trailer camera. Dealer said it was a "dealer installed" option that they would install for me (included in sticker price), but I elected to do the work myself. Not a pretty install, but I didn't want to deal with trying to route the cable internally. The camera has a very clear picture (unlike the wireless camera a buddy has on his RV).
Installed the TPMS module for the hell of it, even though the sensors won't work with my wheels. Valve stem hole in my wheels is about 10mm and the sensors are about 15mm. Guess I'll go with an aftermarket system for that.
I wonder if you can buy ford sensors at a tire shop that will fit the holes, and how many wires go to the camera, I.E. was the connector in the camera 3 pins or how many?
How long was the length of cable to the camera? And how long is your trailer? Mine is 40 feet and I doubt the camera cable is long enough to do without extensions.

Hello EpicCowlick, The long cable was about 45' and the "Y" cord was about 16' & 19' (TPMS module & truck connector). Hopefully photos help show this.
My RV is about 42.5' nose to rear bumper. Had a little extra cable length for this since I went with the rear bumper connection. If I had tried to move the camera/TPMS jack to the bed it might have been an issue...
