OEM or Motorcraft will be your best bet for replacement parts, especially sensors or electrical. Dorman components for hard parts like suspension, exhaust, etc can be good quality replacements as well. Just a side note for future reference.
Ok, I'm an idiot. I made an assumption that my Ex had a Glow Plug Control Module without checking under the hood! Seems as though I have a "weird" Ex and I have a glow plug relay, not a Glow Plug Control Module! (Sorry Stewart_H)
But the relay looks pretty good (no rust or obvious corrosion ) so can they be tested? What's really interesting is I was reading about P1396 on another thread and one of the guys posting said this: "Put Ford Factory glow plugs in when replacing. If you don't, your SES light will come on. Fords plugs work differently, and PCM will detect any differences." So I texted my son to ask if he used Ford plugs. He replaced the glow plugs when he had my Ex in Wyoming in 2013. He hasn't answered yet.

It is possible a previous owner replaced the engine harness and PCM in order to swap the GPCM out for a GPR. Another member here did that for his wife's Excursion.
If you don't have a GPCM hiding under there (your pic is too much of a close-up to tell), then you should see two relays. One for the AIH and one for the glow plugs.

Nah. You wanna use OEM glow plugs mainly because aftermarket have been known to swell and get stuck in the head or break off in the head.
OK here is a view from further out...I can't see anything under there but maybe you can?
Yup, someone swapped out your GPCM and replaced it with that GPR. You can see both relays in the second pic. I bet that's why you're getting the P1360 code, the PCM cant see the control module that's supposed to be there.
Lemme tag Joe (he did this mod for his wife's Ex) and see if he has anything to add or correct. @Gaugepro

This is dang interesting guys. So, do you think I should send back the GPCM I just bought or keep it and return this Ex to that configuration?
Lots of factors involved with choosing that course of action. Before you decide, PM me the VIN of your Ex. I'd like to see if it was one of the first ones off the line.

Forgive us. The percentage of females here are very low, so unless you have your name listed in your sig, or unless you sign each post like I do, we probably would have never known!
