1973 F-500 VIN code decode
I just bought a 73 f500 thats been sitting for a few years so I need to replace hoses and grease it up. The Vin is
F500CVQ62058
Can some one help me decode it please. I looked for a vin chart but couldn't find one for the older f500 and up trucks.
Its been setting for a while so any tips on getting it back up to speed would be greatly appreciated also.
Thanks Tom

I think there are too many digits in the first part. Is it F50 or F500?
F50= F500
C=330 cu in 2bbl V8
V=Kentucky truck plant
Q62058=1973 model year consecutive serial number, built November 1972
As far as getting it back up to speed, the first thing is do a visual, looking for anything that doesn't look right. How long has it been sitting? If you just want to get it running to see if it will run, first change the oil and filter, change the fuel filter. I would pull the spark plugs and squirt a little oil down the cylinders then turn the engine over by hand a couple of turns. If it's been sitting for a while there's the possibility of stuck valves. If you feel any resistance when turning, stop and pull the valve covers. Pull the rocker arm shafts and then take a hammer and "tap" each valve stem. If any are stuck you will feel and hear a definite difference.
Being a '73 it will have points and condenser ignition, you'll probably have to clean and maybe re-gap the points (.017").

As for parts, your best bet would probably be NAPA, they're more used to dealing with fleet and heavy trucks than your typical AutoZone or Discount Auto Parts.

1968/78: 330 2V Medium Duty uses the 360 FE crankshaft. 330 2V Heavy Duty uses the FT 361 crank.
Rod/main bearings/lifters same: FE (352-360-390) & FT (330 2V M/D - 330 2V H/D - 361 2V/4V - 391 4V
FT's use different heads, gaskets, clutches, flywheels and other internal parts.
Be aware that 500 and larger series trucks have their own LARGE TRUCK forum. Most of the members of this forum have pickups.
